Ratings for Dr. Chryssa McAlister
4.4
I recently got referred to this doctor because I have a binocular double vision issue. Prior to seeing Dr. McAlister I had had a number of appointments at the University of Waterloo Optometry Clinic. They had sent some paperwork to Dr. McAlister's office and at one point I was told by someone that Dr. McAlister had looked at the paperwork and said "she needs surgery". I found this out before I went to see her at her office. So when I did finally see her at her office she never brought surgery up at all, she now wants me to see a neurologist and have an MRI done. I also had some bloodwork done. It's like you either think I need surgery or you don't LOL. If she thinks I need surgery it's probably most likely a muscle related issue so if that's the case then why am I having these other tests and an MRI done. ?? At one point she had mentioned about sending me to Mississauga so I figured that was where the surgery would happen so all in all my first impression is not the greatest, I just feel things were somewhat sloppy.
I consider Dr McAlister the best Ophthalmologist around. She is very knowledgeable, excellent personality and very caring. I have zero complaints about her.
Dr McAlister is most likely one of the finest ophthalmologists. She has a style that is far more comprehensive then most - double and triple checking everything. When I came in to see her I had gone blind in my eye after several surgeries. She methodically created a plan and slowly brought the eye back. After nearly a year of blindness - I now have 20-20 in that eye. She is smart, professional and methodical. Her entire staff team is the same. If you get referred to her - consider it a blessing.

She is amazing!! Explains step by step what she is doing. She makes you feel comfortable. Very thorough in her explanations. Makes you feel like you are the most important person.
Always a good experience and never an issue. Wait times far less than previous doctor
I have been seeing Dr McAlister for several years now for pigmentary glaucoma and she and her staff have been fantastic. Dr McAlister is able to tailor her explanations to your level of knowledge about your condition and medication options. She goes out of her way to explain the background of your condition and give full insight into options for management which I appreciate as someone with a pre-med background who decided to do other things :) Her staff are friendly, efficient, and flexible given that this office sees people from a very wide cachement area in and outside of Waterloo Region . They send reminders before your apporintment and see you as soon as possible once you arrive. The new office is bright, airy, clean, and efficient. Dr McAlister also leverages her time extremely well and allows optometrists to manage uncomplicated conditions that she is confident can be treated at that level which frees her time up for more complex cases. While some reviews below take issue with this, it's the right approach to allow specialist time to be best put to use. I am thankful to Dr McAlister for diagnosing my condition which is not especially common but for treating it and treating me with respect. This office is also great with medication refills which is much appreciated for those of us on long-term glaucoma therapy.
Dr. McAlister is as good as they come - I would trust her with family and friends after she did such great work on my eyes and restored my sight.
She and her staff were very friendly and helpful. The whole procedure and testing were explained and all my questions answered. I have just had my second eye done and pleased again with outcome.. THANK YOU
