3 pantry item essentials for a keto lifestyle

If you’re an active keto dieter, you’ll want all the high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carb foods in your pantry in case you need to put something together in a pinch.

Olive oil

Keto dieters know how much of a staple olive oil is. It’s clear of carbs, high in oleic acid (a healthy fat known to support heart health), and high in antioxidants known as phenols, which protects heart health by decreasing inflammation and improving artery function.

In the kitchen, it doesn’t react to heat as well as some other oils, but it’s perfect for marinades and homemade mayonnaise. Whole olives are also nice to have on-hand, since they’re a low-carb, keto-friendly veggie that can add a salty, bright note to your dishes.

Soft cheeses

If there’s one hidden upside to going keto, it’s all the wonderful cheeses you can try (assuming you’re cheeseheads like us)!

Soft cheeses

There are endless types of cheese, and many are high in fat and low in carbs, making it an essential for any keto cook.

Soft cheeses in particular are a great and healthy choice because they’re lower in sodium. Get your soft cheese collection started with brie, blue cheese, camembert (pictured), cream cheese, goat cheese and mascarpone; there are the most well-known keto-friendly soft cheeses!

Green peppers

Green peppers are low-carb vegetables that are also high in iron and “have double the amount of vitamin C by weight that oranges and other citrus fruits have,” according to WebMD.

They’re also a strong source of vitamin B6, vitamin K, potassium, vitamin E, folates and vitamin A. If you can’t think of a recipe idea for green peppers, stuffed peppers is a highly customizable and simple dish to add to your repertoire.
