The staff and Dr Shojania are so great. I have been a patient for over 15 years. Dr Shojania is very thorough, and compassionate as well as always willing to listen to me. The staff is always very friendly and efficient, and greet me by name which is very nice.

I went to see Dr. Ennis and Dr. Shojania. They did absolutely nothing to treat me. A year later I am still experiencing debilitating symptoms and my gp has referred me to a new Rhuematologist. Please don’t waist your time, go see someone who will investigate and treat you like my new doctors.

Dr. Kam Shojania's response
It is a good idea to get a second opinion if you do not feel listened to. I hope things turn out well for you.

Dr Kam Shojania is the best doctor I have ever encountered. Twenty years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and he was extremely patient, kind, compassionate, and understanding. That has not changed over the years. Without getting too personal about my mental health, I know that without his encouragement, kindness, and guidance to turn myself into a better and happier person, I would not be where I am now. I have a history of ditching doctors when I don't like even the littlest things about them, but Dr Shojania is a keeper. He is a very dedicated doctor, working not only his private practice, but he teaches new doctors, and works on the Covid19 wards as well. I trust him completely with my care.

He said he prefers cases that have straightforward lab results that he can treat. I wasn't easy enough for him I guess. He hadn't bothered to read my case history in depth or he would have known of my repeated positive ANA , Anti Ro, Ana ssa and 3 separate inflammatory tissue biopsy results. Along with relapsing physical symptoms that have been well observed and documented in my medical files one would hope to get some level of interest. I left being told i don't have an autoimmune issue at all and to just not focus on it. ?? I have been on high dose immune treatment for over 3.5 years! Just a bizarre and ultimately dismissive outcome. Not recommended unless you already know the answer to your illness going in..so you can make it easier for him.

Dr. Kam Shojania's response
I don't recall every saying that I prefer straightforward cases. In fact is the opposite. I actually prefer trying to figure out the best possible diagnosis in complex cases but sometimes that is not possible. I also read up on all my new patients the night before the clinic and I check Careconnect which shows all the lab tests done anywhere in BC for the past decade. The problem is that lab tests do not always point us in the right direction. It is very difficult and stressful to hear that you might not have an autoimmune disease if it has been diagnosed previously. I am sorry my communication wasn't good in this situation. I now try to take a few visits to 'de-diagnose' someone just to make sure.

Did video interview after pos ANA/RF tests and hip issue. Went in person, he told me I was just hyper mobile, get a trainer if I can afford it and that’s it. Completely dismissive. Left crying. Called me a loose woman as well as a joke but did not appreciate it. Still really sick and getting worse but referred to a new rheum. Dismissive. Condescending.

Dr. Kam Shojania's response
Yes. That was dismissive and condescending. Absolutely. And a dumb joke that will never be repeated.
The positive ANA/RF may not be significant. I hope it goes well with the new rheumatologist.
