My psychiatrist for over 20 years very sorry he is retiring

Incredibly nasty staff. Meakins is older than the hills and is not up to date on any resources available. Always late and only spends a couple of minutes with you. Pills are his ONLY solution. Claims that no evening groups exist (not true). No action plan other than pills and monthly 5 minute meaningless meetings at the incredibly stressful college plaza location. Parking is a nightmare and there are so many people around. Stopped wasting time and energy with this "doctor" and haven't been able to get referred to a competent psychiatrist. At the end of my rope. Doubt I will survive much longer.

I came in convinced that I had a specific illness, and was diagnosed with that same illness within a few minutes. On the next visit I said I may have manipulated my diagnosis because I had convinced myself I had the condition. Every subsequent visit after that, Dr Meakins repeatedly said “you did say this, but then again you could be lying because you admitted lying to me in the past”. I don’t think you can have a relationship with a psychiatrist who constantly calls you out for lying to him when it was never your intent to lie in the first place.

Left my appointment feeling worse than when I came in. He is very one sided , and pushy with his belief on an unrelated matter that came up in the assessment. I definitely will not be back to see him!

I was referred by my therapist for anxiety/ query ADD diagnosis. Dr Meakins was kind and thorough in his initial assessment but let his personal views on an unrelated topic ( Covid vaccination ) get in the way and I left the appointment feeling extra anxious and upset over his lack of professionalism, and one-sided views.

Meakins is a great psychiatrist! Old school yes, but know's the best of practice to achieve the best ultimate outcome. He treats my friend with the utmost respect for the last 13 years. Listens to her concerns and treats her with the best care possible. He listens to her concerns and tries to ease those instabilities. Sad to hear he is retiring soon.

He has been my psychiatrist for almost 13 years. Hes upfront and honest and although we've been working on the best medication regime, he always supports and has my best intersts in mind. I am sad he will be retiring in the next few years. Still dont understand all the negative comments but I guess everyones opinions are different.

I have been seeing this Dr. for about 8 months now. Receptionist is quite cold, as pointed out by others, and makes me feel quite uncomfortable, even on the phone. The other people there are quite friendly. Usually always get in 10 to 15 minutes late, and feel rushed out. Very eager to prescribe medications, but in my case, we talked through it quite a bit.

Very knowledgable Doctor regarding his medications. Comes across as not caring, but in my experience, if I have a concern or request, he listens and takes it seriously.
