Best doctor I have ever had. I highly recommend him to everyone.

My doctor recommended I go to this guy. Walking into his waiting area his receptionist if she is there or not on the phone . She's not all that bad but it would be nice to be able to confirm my appointment. Dr Meakins Office is filled with zombies who are clearly overmedicated. This cannot be something positive to see upon your first appointment. Then when you meet Dr Meakins he him self feels like he self-medicating. Like other people pointed out here you get the feeling walking out of being more angry than when you walk in . I basically quit going to him as I wanted to talk to somebody not be sent to a focus group and be drugged up.

I always came out of appointments with this man feeling worse than when I went in. Each time I managed to do something more than the previous month he say "is that all you've managed to do?" The waiting room and office staff was so cold an unwelcoming that my friends refused to wait for me there and would meet me in the lobby. I would see him for 10 minutes once a month and felt I was not making any progress with him. He's okay at picking a drug to put you on but besides that he's awful. I finally phoned up and told the office I wouldn't be coming anymore and their response was "okay." That sums up the caring attitude found with this doctor. I'm now seeing a wonderful caring doctor.

His receptionist was so rude she scared me. He was anxious to prescribe any kind of meds although only spent a few minutes with me. I found another Dr. who has empathy and does not condescend to you.

Honestly, this man robbed me of my youth. As a confused minor suffering from depression, I was given anti psychotics and sedatives. If I was having troubles dealing with something, meds would be upped. I became a walking zombie, and would regularly sleep for 12-16 hours. Apparently this was no concern. I developed severe side effects to a drug I was being prescribed, and after a family consultation with him, we were told there was nothing to be done except increase the medication. I was suicidal, and threatening to hurt others. We left the meeting, and promptly found another psychiatrist through AHS. The new doctor questioned why I was on such strong doses of sedatives and antipsychotics. Without a good answer, it was decided to take me off those meds and put on anti-depressants. It was like a miracle cure. I lost 3 years of my youth, most of which I can LITERALLY not remember. I am mad, and I just decided to search him out after all these years. And here we are, with a page filled with several similar stories. I felt compelled to write this as a cautionary tale, your mental health is yours, don't let this doctor steal it from you with his lack of compassion.

I saw this doctor 35 years ago & am surprised that he is still practicing. I, too, found him to be abrupt and inattentive. When I complained about the side effects of the medication, he just raised the dosage. It was raised to an amount that seriously jeopardized my job. I stopped seeing him and went off the medication. Fortunately, I found an excellent psychiatrist 20 years later.

This doctor has caused so much irreversible damage to my brother that he should no longer practice!! Unknowing to the family he allowed my brother - in a serverly Over medicated state to sign a consent form and receive 12 rounds of ECT... Prescribed high amounts of lithium and sent him out the door to live?? Without follow up treatment. This is a man that had worked an incredible job and raised 4 kids! This man suffered from seasonal depression and this doctor said he was bipolar!!! He should not be practicing! Now I have a brother and his kids have a father with no short term memory, incapable of working, and numerous visits to the hospital!!! Please do not use this doctor!!!

My wife was referred to this quake. She suffers from moderate depression and on her first visit, after a 15 minute consultation we hear him tell his student doctor that she could be schizophrenic. I've done my own research on schizophrenia and my wife has never exhibited any symptoms of the disorder. How on earth can he make such a ridiculous diagnosis after only 15 minutes. STAY AWAY FROM THIS QUAKE AT ALL COSTS.

Antiquated ideas. Doesn't let me finish speaking before he jumps in, talking over me. Inaccurately decided that I have OCD base on frequent hand washing even though I work in a medical facility. Won't work with me on fixing dosage due to side effects. Won't respect personal ideals or preferences.

This man performed 12 rounds of ECT on my brother! Over medicated him to the point he was unrecognizable and then sent him home with no follow up support! Expecting my brother to follow up on his own accord. A year later we are dealing with the aftermath of his treatment which seems far worse than the illness was to begin with.
