Dr. Yoshida is very effective. He's been treating me since 2004, and I was so fortunate to have him as one of the few subject matter experts in town. All my visits are pleasant with the occasional wait if in the afternoon. Staff is fine. You just have to call in each time to book an appointment instead of speaking to the clerk at the reception. My last interview was via phone due to COVID, and he spent the same amount of time as if I were visiting his office. Never felt rushed.

I was referred to Dr. Yoshida for a gastroscope almost 20 years ago, shortly after my Dad died of stomach cancer at age 74. I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus, which has resolved through successful treatment. I have a family history of stomach cancer on both sides of my family and so get triennial gastroscopies to monitor, plus I have other diagnosed GI issues. Every single visit, whether in the endoscopy clinic, in his office, or over the phone during COVID-19, Dr. Yoshida has been caring, respectful, and reassuring. We established a good rapport from the get-go. He speaks with me intelligently and with no arrogance or condescension that I've ever detected. I feel very lucky to have him as my gastroenterologist.

I had my previous colonoscopy with another doctor at VGH and it was a painless experience. For my next one, my family doctor referred me Dr. Yoshida because he said the wait was shorter. While I waited for my turn, I heard screams coming from inside but I thought nothing of it. When my turn came, the team seemed rushed. During the procedure, I screamed in pain because it felt like my insides were being twisted. There was no explanation, no communication whatsoever from anyone in the room why there was so much pain, no assurance that it was going* to be over soon . When it was over, before I could be discharged, Dr. Yoshida came by and I told him that the procedure was extremely painful. There was no explanation why the pain was necessary, if indeed it was. I do not recommend Dr. Yoshida as a doctor. He may be good but he is not the only one who can do the job. I hope I do not have to see him again.

Dr. Yoshida was running late & only spent 15 minutes with me. He had not read my file before the appointment, a very serious matter as I have a complex condition. He did not remember having treated me before. He gave me dietary advice that conflicted with previous advice.

my first colonoscopy was with a different doctor and the procedure was very painful. doctor yoshida performed my last two colonoscopies and the experience was very different. colonoscopies are no fung, but dr. yoshida keeps you informed throughout the operation, he has a kind and gentle bedside manner and is very knowledgeable. i would not hesitate to return to this doctor, but i hope i don't have to.

I find him great when things are seriously wrong. He can diagnose, investigate, treat and help. I think he is amazing for liver and transplant patients-a life saver. Where he is a bit off is in explaining / talking to patients. I think this results from a huge case load rather than indifference. From a patient point of view, I would like more explanation or suggestions from him on what I should or shouldn't be doing . But if and when I need a great clinician, I would take him and be grateful.
