Dr Amar is one of the finest doctors I’ve met in my lifetime. This is coming from a patient who is the son of a Surgeon who grew up in a medically oriented environment.
His unselfishness, dedication and knowledge are most exceptional in the service he gave his patients. I was just fortunate enough to have met him and perform my GI procedures and treatments. He had done an excellent service to humanity & his community. He will be surely missed by many if and when he retires from service

Awful. He didn't diagnose my C.Diff and I continued to be sick for years (about 3 in total). Complained about the paperwork he had to read about me. Complained that too many of his patients were like me.

Dr. Amar has been my Gastroenterologist for over10 years and very thankful for the amazing care over the years. Credit him for being carefully over seeing my health and intervention in early diagnosis for Ampullary Cancer. Semi retired now and will miss him once he fully retires.

Dr. Amar has been my gastroenterologist for over thirty years. With my family history of colon cancer he has performed numerous and regular colonoscopies for me, and absolutely I am alive today as a result. I will be forever grateful for his kind and expert help over many, many years.

My father has had a very difficult journey with his health to say the very least. It started with a colon cancer diagnosis and surgery that took him months to recover from. Following that surgery, he suffered a heart attack that resulted in him going in for a bypass open-heart surgery. While still recovering from his heart surgery, my father had a severe brain hemorrhage that resulted in nurses rushing him to VGH to perform emergency surgery. During recovery from this surgery, he developed sepsis and spent months in the ICU.

After all of this, he was discharged to GF strong. He completed rehab at GF strong with the hopes of recovering from these major procedures and starting a new chapter. We worked hard with therapists there to regain the functions he had lost. When he entered GF strong he was not speaking or walking unassisted. When he left he had regained his speech and could walk without support.

Unfortunately, due to complications of his colon surgery, my father began to develop an extremely distended stomach. The bloat and heaviness of this complication prevented him from doing nearly anything to live a normal life. He could not walk more than a few steps, he did not eat more than a few bites, expressing to us that it is hard to enjoy food when it feels like your stomach is too full or that you might throw up. He had resigned himself to laying in bed almost the full 24 hours of the day. His mental health began to quickly deteriorate and he was unlike himself. He was told that after a few years that the issue might resolve itself. He was given many solutions and options that did not work. He was told his only option was again to go in for surgery. You can imagine the anxiety behind this suggestion, and the unwillingness he had to participate. Nearly every surgery he’s had, he has almost died. His healthcare professionals had even advised that surgery was not an option they could confidently suggest, as they too were aware of his history.

After almost 5 years, our family was out of options and feeling very hopeless. I asked my father's team for a second opinion and specifically asked to be referred to Dr. Amar. He was spoken of very highly by his past patients. Our family was hoping to be presented with an option that my father was comfortable agreeing to, one that did not require the risk of another surgery. We were thrilled to learn from Dr. Amar that there was another option to try.

His team was very kind, considerate, and accommodating from the very beginning. Upon meeting Dr. Amar, he took the time to explain the procedure he had in mind for my father and explained that it may not work but we will try. He empathized with how difficult it had been for him. He eased his fears about potential surgery in the future by explaining that there was really nothing to be afraid of. This manner of speaking made the experience stress free for my father, which in turn helped ease the anxieties our family was also feeling. We felt heard. We trusted the process.

The procedure worked for my father. After 3 days of placing the stent into his colon, his stomach began to decompress on its own.

My fathers mood has since improved drastically and he is slowly building more hope in the future of his life and wellbeing. Our family at last feel like we are coming out of this and the relief is inexplicable. A truly outstanding doctor.

For 15 years I have been a patient of Dr Amar’s. I started seeing him at 20 as I’m blessed with bad family history. All of my colonoscopies have been really great experiences despite what’s going on. You don’t want to do this but it’s important and Dr Amar is my hero. I just fought off breast cancer and can so dearly appreciate a great doctor when you have one. He told me at 20 we’re going to be great friends, kind of a joke but hey here we are 15 years later. You’re in good hands.

Dr. Amar had provided the most outstanding care to me for the past seventeen years. He has performed multiple procedures on me including colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, and endoscopy. I will be devastated when he retires. He is kind, caring, compassionate and goes the extra mile for all his patients. He truly cares about the health and well-being of his patients. His and his right hand person Pat is truly amazing- organized, competent and efficient. I adore both of them. I do wish them all the best in their upcoming respective retirement s!
