My wife was diagnosed with IPMN recently and is very thankful that the diagnostics is not relying on his very unprofessional non-medical opinion to this very serious diagnosis. To implicate that she may have indigestion may be the source of her pain. It seems that his diagnostic skills are not very good as percentages are paid in human lives. I realize that it is a tricky disease and again is thankful for the many doctors working on my wife.

Have been under his care for many years and have found him to be knowledgeable, caring and thorough. Can wait sometimes but think that is the nature of his work. Always follows up. Did prefer him at his private office.

In June 2009, my dad was diagnosed with liver cancer and was told to expect a call within 2 weeks for possible surgery. My dad being the trusting person he was, didn't follow up. Three months later, the cancer was deemed inoperable when the family intervened to book another appointment. Ten months later, my father passed away. During the follow-up visits, Dr Weiss didn't once mention how long my father had left, and continued to book ultrasounds and blood tests to which my dad had difficulty attending because his health was failing. He was even brought into Burnaby General Hospital on a day when Dr Weiss was on call at VGH. In emergency for most of the day while the hospital tried to contact Dr Weiss for further instructions, just to be medicated and sent home. Days later, he was re-admitted and within 10 days, he died. During this entire time, Dr Weiss did not provide any phone #s for any support services, i.e social workers or palliative care programs. Dad was just another statistic.

I've been a patient of Dr. Weiss's for 9 years now. Diagnosed with an ugly progressive disease in my early 20's, he was all I had to help me get on the right medical track,( I mean, what did I know?). In the beginning years he had a private practice and his own secretary that greeted you at the door! It was wonderful! I miss those days. Although he may come across as a man with no personality and is seemingly rushed for time. He knows what he's doing and I've learned to ask, ask, ask. No question is silly in my opinion, he's always answered every one! He's even told me what he does for relaxation and has offered some amusing yet effective tips! So, even with the relocation of his office and team, which I'm not happy about..it has been made too impersonal. He's been a great GI Specialist for me and my family. I don't know what I'm going to do when he retires.

I phoned his receptionist, fearing I'd be late for the appointment. "Don't worry," she said, "He's running two and a half hours late." I arrived, waited 20 minutes, and then he tried to scold me for keeping him from getting home.

Misdiagnosed with celiac disease. His bedside manner-well, there isn't one. He is abrupt and it's his way or no way-does not like being asked questions. Always late getting into appointments. Luckily, went to another gastro fellow who was excellent.

Very nice and knowledgeable specialist. Had a great experience and received great care. When I compare him to the numerous other specialists that I have seen he is one of the best - both personality wise and treatment wise. He provided me with preliminary results right after my procedure and answered my questions well. I was provided with several options right from the start and felt like I was listened to without him questioning my condition/symptoms which sometimes occured to me with some of the other specialists.

I am now in the process of a second opinion after my visit to Dr. Weiss. I found his attitude to be one of certainty about IBS when he had done absolutely no other testing to rule out other diseases or problems. He did schedule me for a colonoscopy but did not explain the procedure to me. As for his secretary, she is usually an answering machine. When I did speak to her she put me on hold over and over again and could not even remember who I was or why I called. She also cound not locate positive test results faxed to the office by my GP she seems totally inept. When I said I was concerned about medication prescribed by Dr. Weiss she instructed me to see my GP. My GP said see the specialist so I called and she said he would get back to me but he never did, he went away for a week. I never did hear back from the Dr. or his secretary and it has been over three weeks. I would not trust my health to either the Dr. or his secretary.

talks in circles about your condition, gives conflicting information on written report which confuses patients and other doctors reading report;office visits are never on time. very disappointed and am reqesting 2nd opinion now. Is very good doing procedures though-just not happy about how he explains or doesn't explain condition.
