I met Dr. Mayson when he was a resident in training at VGH under Dr. Martin Gleave who should be avoided at all costs. Mayson was introduced to me on the morning of my so called nerve sparring radical proctectomy by Gleave. Gleave had talked me in to him doing the operation since he guaranteed under his skill all would be good. I had never met Mayson before and he was not involved in my case. Right of the bat I did not like this Mayson who came across as an arrogant guy . Gleave took off never to be seen again. On the way in to the operating room Mayson informs me he will be doing the surgery and he had no intention of sparring any nerves. He actually stated , we are not here to spare nerves , we are here to cut out cancer. This scarred the hell out of me. Once in the OR I realized I had been lied to by Gleave and this buffoon was actually go to do the cutting. I sat up , swung my legs off the table and said I am out of here. At that time I was grabbed from behind, needle shoved in my arm and pushed back down on the table. Lights out. So even when I rescinded my consent Mayson went ahead any ways and operated. Shows what kind of guy he is. Well Mayson spent 3 hours ripping me up . Saw me in my room later and told me how difficult the operation was and he was a star for doing it. Well he gutted me left me a complete mess. I have tried to contact him since but he wants nothing to do with me and his butchery. Mayson destroyed my life. I live in constant pain, incontinence, complete deadness in the area and bowel problems. Neither Gleave nor Mayson would wanted anything to do with the case afterwards

Excellent Specialist with incredible diagnostic skills and more importantly impressive people skills. He quickly built rapport with me through the use of active listening skills. Resolved issue quickly and thoroughly. I was lucky to be referred to him by my Family Physician. Highly recommended!

Dr. Mayson was very helpful. He listened patiently and let me complete my sentences before he replied, something not that common among Specialists, I find. He did not push a procedure I could have done, but that was the best option in my case. At age 72 and having had a life filled with medical problems and countless specialists, Dr. Mayson was patient, knowledgeable and compassionate, and treated me with respect, rather as a team member than the "god in white" whose opinion is the only one that counts that I experience often, especially from specialists. Even being a woman (and unfortunately there are very few female urologists in the lower mainland) I would not hesitate trusting Dr. Mayson with my challenges.
I can't speak about the office staff performance as I only had one phone call with them, during which this team member was friendly and kind.

Cancelled my appointment at the last moment by the doctor. Next appointment offered to me was after one month. I was told to remain near phone for a two-hour time period which is not possible because of my work. Office staff is rude and not helpful. I would never go to this doctor.

Took the time to fully explain the couple of challenges I faced and my options - got me through the system in a timely fashion as my conditions warranted. Made it clear that if any time in the process I didn't understand or was just plain scared to get hold of him directly. Referred me to an oncologist who is top in her field in prostate treatment. Overall very satisfied with hopefully good outcomes to follow.
