My husband was coming to see Dr Kumpula for a while. He was misdiagnosed, and had trouble verbalizing his issues, so he asked me to join him for an appointment. I explained a situation where he was incredibly abusive and dangerous, outlined the whole scenario, and her conclusion was that I must have PMS. I was in complete shock and it obviously gave my abusive husband more leverage. I reached out to her to say I was worried about him and his depression, and she did nothing. He ended up following through on his suicidal ideations not long after. I will never forgive her for blaming me for being abused and I hope that hasn't happened to anyone else. She is dangerous.

Dr. Kumpula doesn’t seem to care about me. She consistently is using her microwave, shuffling papers, eating, etc. when we have our sessions. Rather than giving me her full undivided attention, I feel she tries to multitask, which is very disrespectful and distracting. I missed our face to face meetings and I wish we could have those instead of discussing on the phone or using doxy.me. I feel that I am not heard and meeting with her hasn’t improved my mental health,

Dr Kumpula is the worst psychiatrist I have ever seen. She is unethical, unprofessional, and makes inappropriate comments. When I started transitioning and asked her to update my information, she started demanding to know things like what kinds of "sex change surgery" I would be having. She insisted that my transition was due to mania and started asking in depth questions about my marriage, sex life, and finances. When I wanted to switch off lithium to something less damaging she was incredibly unhelpful. I never felt safe or comfortable with her and I think she is very out of touch with the modern world.

This woman is scary. I don’t think she is even in touch with reality? Split personality if you know what I mean. Dr. Jeckel for sure. I think that this woman’s license should be revoked. Very unprofessional And unethical.

Misdiagnosed me.I was on the wrong drugs for years. Felt worse than when I first went to see her. Tried telling her but wouldn’t listen. Had several second opinions and they diagnosed me different but she didn’t believe them. She ruined my life.

This entire site is inaccurate because everyone is so different and naturally controversial. Do we all like the same tv shows? Movies? Sports? Foods? No we don’t! Just because I don’t like onions, mushrooms or olives doesn’t mean they’re poisonous and you should ONLY eat carrots, peas and celery. We all interpret life differently, we even interpret people and conversations differently. 3 people can read the same article and get 3 different meanings out of it. What I’m saying is; if her eyes looking heavy makes you not want to see her then don’t. YOU think she looks like she’s going to fall asleep but has she? Has she fallen asleep? Has she ever snapped out of it and not known what you were talking about? Does she miss what you’re saying or is she tuned out? No, she’s definitely not!! I play with my hair and rub my hands together when talking, does that mean no one should talk to me? People shouldn’t leave such comments related to her personality as there’s no way they know anything about her nor should they deter others from going to see her. People can decide for themselves who they want to see and one of the first things she said to me was “sometimes a psychiatrist isn’t the right match for a patient and that’s okay.” I honestly feel like every professional deserves their own chance. I couldn’t possibly say enough positive things about Dr.Kumpula and am very grateful to have her as my doctor. She’s not perfect but is very experienced and knowledgeable, and in my opinion very capable and good at what she does. She wouldn’t have put all those years, time, effort, and money into school if she didn’t have the desire to help people. I’m very happy with her most of the time and when I’m not, she gets grace because nobody is perfect. Also let’s remember, everyone leaving comments on here is or has been under the care of a psychiatrist. A mental health and brain specialist!!! Someone who you need a referral to see. Happy go lucky positive people who handle life’s challenges and manage their own issues without hating life and everyone in it don’t see a psychiatrist. All these reviews are from people who have specific issues meaning they’re very personalized opinions likely related to their own circumstances which should not influence anyone else’s experiences with her. Go see her and decide for yourself. Not once or twice, give her a chance to pick your brain and help you. I’m very happy with her and plan to continue with her long term. It’s already been 1.5 years and still counting

The negative reviews are bizarre to me, especially the ones mentioning that she pushes religious solutions or topics. I've been seeing her for several months now and have been open from the start about my atheism. No pressure from her there. She mentions nothing of it. She is frank and direct, qualities I appreciate. Your psychiatrist is not there to be your friend - they are there to guide you with their knowledge and she does exactly that. I've never felt that she was falling asleep on me. Sometimes she mixes up her information with what I tell her but all her information IS correct, which satisfies me that she actually listens to my concerns. I get a sense of determination from her when she says she wants to help me find a solution to my emotional issues and truly believe she wishes to help. She did rather quickly give me a working diagnosis that I had never considered before, but she is the doctor- not me, and she knows what to look for. I trust her guidance and I'm glad she has such a direct manner with me, her client. I don't want my care sugar-coated and I would feel insulted if it was. This is a doctor who works with you to determine for you exactly what you need and no more.

There aren’t enough positive things to say about Dr.Kumpula! She is absolutely fantastic at what she does. It’s not uncommon for people not to mix well with therapists which is why you try another one. Maybe she’s not the one for you, but she’s sure the right one for me!
