I saw this man several years ago while I was on short-term disability from work with depression. As with a previous commenter, it was an IME to assess my condition for work. I was honest, forthright and did very well in his impromptu memory and cognition tests. Nevertheless, when I received a copy of the report that he sent my company, I was aghast to see that he had ignored my state of depression and ramped up my diagnosis to "Borderline Personality Disorder"! This is a serious disorder in the DMV IV, and nowhere in my past when dealing with depression had this ever come up. I have found out since that male psychiatrists are quick to label females with BPD, a throwback to the old Freudian attitudes. He was paid off very well by the company I USED to work with, and one of the reasons they hire him is that if they are sued for wrongful dismissal, they can use his report to publicly drag your name through the mud. He's a blight to the Hippocratic oath!

I saw Dr. John for an IME (Independent Medical Examination) as I was off work on stress leave. I found his manner rude, offensive, and confrontational. As well, his written report had multiple inaccuracies of what was said during this visit. I reported him to the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and when they contacted Dr. John, he outright lied and claimed he hadn't said some of the things he said to me. The College's response was since they hadn't been there, they had no way of know if he actually said what I claimed he had. WARNING: If you have to go to him for an IME, take someone with you to act as a witness, or better yet, insist that the session be videotaped! That will be the only protection you have against any complaint you may make.

Beware of this one. Dr. John is a psychiatrist for hire. Disability management groups pay well for the "right" diagnosis. If referred to him refuse to attend. I attended a psychiatrist who conducted a thorough assesment just before seeing him who suggsted time off for depression. My employer referred me to Dr. John who was quite upfront about working for the company rather than me. Through some miricale I was pretty much diagnosed before I hit the chair and within an hour I was all "figured out". Needless to say I was ordered back to work immediately based on his recommendation- without treatment or follow up of any sort. Of course he was clear that was going to happen from the onset. Know where his priorities lie before you go to see him- and only if you absolutely must.
