I am furious. I have been a patient of Dr. Gainey for about 5 years, getting Botox for migraine. He suddenly abandoned his practice. I didn't get a letter, but apparently some patients did. My botox is paid for and ready to deliver, but I can't find a doc on my insurance to administer it. So I'm stopping it. It's always been a struggle working with this office. Prescriptions weren't called in, he wouldn't do imaging, staff screwed up my botox ordering and scheduling over and over- causing me weeks of unnecessary pain. But this? This is the most unprofessional thing I've ever heard of a doctor doing. No call, no response to my messages. How do I get my records? Where am I supposed to go now?

I agree with previous comment --I have been a patient of Dr. Gainey for many years and was shocked to receive the letter from him . I also left a message on their machine and have not gotten a call back. I also need my records and a referral to a new dr. If anyone else has heard back please e mail me at lucyfan54@gmail.com

He used to be pretty good, though his staff is completely useless lots of errors with submitting to insurance for preauthorization, etc they just can't handle anything and don't call you back so you can help them get paid. However he just abandoned me along with all his patients by walked away from his practice. Though supposedly his staff is still there even though he's not they are supposed to fill meds and get your records ready and answer the phone but all you get is a machine so far no call backs. There was no notice before he walked away just a letter telling me he's gone. Unbelievable as I'm on a medication that can't be stopped abruptly without causing seizures, Etc. I'll be filing. Formal complaint with the state.

If there had been a lower score than 1 for knowledge I would've chosen what he deserves. I saw Dr. Gainey for 3 years from 2005-2008. I have had MS since 1999 and was stable at the time. In 2007 I was diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Gainey took me off my MS meds insisting I could never be on MS meds ever again because I needed to have radiation. After 6 months of being off my MS meds I had a major relapse. I went to the hospital and he never came because he said he was too busy. He was part of a large group at the time who appartently were just as useless. Eventually after 3 days osuddenly being unable to walk and having double vision he sent a retired neurologist that he had worked with at one time. AThis Dr. didn't see MS patients at all.

Now nearly 7 years later I need to use a wheelchair. When I had explained this to my new neurologist, he looked at me and shook his head in exasperation. He is totally incompetent. Yes, he seems like a nice enough person, but that's not a reason to put your life in his hands !

Excellent neurologist. Very friendly, caring, and compassionate. Will not stop until he figures out what is going on. Need more doctors like him out there.

I went to 3 different doctors before finding Dr. Gainey, and he's the only one who helped me get rid of my migraines. He has so much compassion, and will listen to every word you say. He has the best bedside manner I've ever saw in a doctor. Not sure where the people with negative comments go to, but his office in Morganville is wonderful. The secretary would never raise her voice, and is extremely helpful.

I would not recommend this doctor. I was suffering with numb fingers, a very weak right arm, and numb feelings throughout my body. After an examination, blood work and an emg, he sent me on my way. Several months later, after a cervical MRI, it was found that I had severe spinal compression due a large C4-5 disc herniation. Surgery was required. Symptoms are somewhat better, but I have suffered spinal cord damage. Dr. Gainey referred me to a rheumatologist, but never sent by EMG results, even after two phone calls. I finally went there and got a copy myself. His office staff is meager. I believe his parents and maybe his wife work for him. I believe he avoids sending patients for needed MRIs because that requires a staff that will work with the insurance company for approvals. I wasted valuable time with this doctor, not to mention good money.

I've been using Dr. Gainey for about 5 years now, and he has NEVER misdiagnosed me. He has helped me tremendously with my headaches. I also had numbness in my hands, he did a few tests but I only have very slight carpal tunnel in one hand. Everything came out perfect for the other hand, so it is a mystery why it gets numb. I did try another doctor a few years ago just to check, and got same results. Dr. Gainey is very professional, has a great beside manner and gives you all of his attention.

I went to Dr. Gainey with numb fingers, weak legs, trouble with my handwriting, dropping things, couldn't button clothing and I could no longer run. He sent me for some blood tests and ordered an EMG. I'll never forget how he just stared at me and told me that my EMG was better than average for a woman my age and that I was fine. I told him that I wasn't fine, that my hands were numb. He then suggested I see a rheumatologist, who referred me to another neurologist. That doctor sent me for an MRI which showed a very large herniated disc in my neck, which explained all of my symptoms. I would not recommend Dr. Gainey whatsoever.

He misdiagnosed me and was treating me for MS without doing an MRI of the brain with contrast or a spinal tap. Went to another neurologist who did the tests and found out I did not have MS. By the time I went to a neurosurgeon in North Jersey that physician could not believe I was still able to walk as I had to have immediate cervical spine surgery. Being a young, single Mother with a child in school this was devastating. Due to the misdiagnosis and delay in surgery my nerves were not able to regenerate and I have total stiffness in both legs and difficulty walking. I would not recommend this neurologist to anyone.
