After gall bladder removal my husband has black explosive diarrhea. He has stopped eating entirely but still it explodes out of him. No food going in at all.

Dr Ciona is brilliant. When he did a bowel resection on me several years ago, the medical staff would ask who my doctor was and when I would tell them, they all said the same thing...I had the best doctor I could find, and the doctors and nurses go to him, as he is the best...well that is plenty good enough for me. I have recommended him to so many people as an exceptional doctor to go to if they could. This man is so brilliant, kind, calm, friendly...the best doctor ever. I am having medical issues now, and if I need surgery and a referral, I will request (and fight for) him, definitely, even though I don't live in Edmonton

Dr. Ciona and myself first met upon my arrival at emergency. This man saved my life and over the time he treated me through six surgeries in total he dipslayed nothing but compassion and understanding.

I have had excellent assistance from Dr. Ciona. He is open to questions, takes time and an interest in his patients. I have on-going complications from cancer treatments which impacted my bowel. Dr. Ciona has provided excellent care. I am grateful for his help. An added plus is his open, friendly manner and sense of humour - a necessity when someone is performing anal inspections! I have also received in-hospital care from a number of other surgeons and residents in that group and was very pleased.

Dr Ciona is great. I would definitely recommend him. He is understanding and knowledgeable. its too bad the girl that handles his appointments is terrible. Unsympathetic, condescending and really doesn’t seem like she likes her job at all.

Summary: If you get Dr. Ciona as your surgeon you are really lucky. So lucky you should go out and buy a lottery ticket. He really is that good.

In the pre-surgery consult Dr. Ciona was so patient and kind. He answered all our many questions and never made us feel rushed. We even laughed a few times. My wife and I went in very nervous about my upcoming surgery and we left feeling great. Dr. Ciona radiated competance and confidence and I knew we had the right guy.

Surgery went great with zero complications. I had by this time watched several videos of my surgery and read up on recovery time and and likely post surgery pain and problem ranges. Yikes!

Mine hit all the 'best case' scenarios. Even the time in the OR was at the quickest in the given range of normal elapsed time. The Mayo clinic website advised that complications and success rates in my surgery were largely attributable to two factors: doctor skill and amount of experience.

Post surgery consult 6 weks after was the same. Unhurried, all questions answered and once again quite a few laughs in a friendly, professional meeting. He finished with, "Feel free to call me if you have any further issues or questions."

Dr, Ciona turned a very bad situation into something so much better than I could have ever hoped for. I was lucky he was assigned to my case.

I recommend Dr. Ciona very highly and am grateful for for both his skill and his personality. Well done, doctor!

This Doctor treated my husband, he was a very positive, knowledgeable and gave us
much hope, I was very impressed with his attitude and his skills. We had no hiccups
with the pre surgery and the surgery, healing process followed instruction and my
husband did very well
