What All Those Selfies Say about Your Personality

What All Those Selfies Say about Your Personality

Put down that selfie stick guys. How you present yourself online could say more about your personality than you think it does, especially when it comes to all those selfies you’ve been taking.

The more selfies you take, the more likely you are to have narcissistic tendencies and even exhibit psychopathic behavior, especially in men, according to a study from Ohio State University and published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences.

For the study, researchers looked at questionnaires filled out by 800 men, between 18 and 40.  The men were asked about their photo-posting habits on social media, how often they posted and if they edited the photos.

Along with the data from the questionnaires, they also had the study’s participants take tests to assess their anti-social behaviors and levels of self-objectification. Overall, they found that those who posted more selfies showed to links to narcissism and psychopathy.

While there’s nothing wrong with taking a cheeky selfie here or there, if you’ve been going a little overboard lately, maybe give scenery or nature photography a try.  It could be a bit more beneficial to your sense of self than pulling out that selfie stick.
