Mobile Devices Not As Harmful To Health

Your mobile phone isn’t frying your brain after all, apparently the magnetic fields generated by mobile devices are not as harmful to human health as once thought, new research suggests.

Researchers found that the magnetic fields produced by mobile devices had no detectable impact on harming key proteins in the body, according to research by the University of Manchester and published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface.

Previous studies suggested that the electromagnetic fields that are emitted from mobile devices and could have negative effects on health including causing cancer and even fertility issues. Low frequency magnetic fields, similar to those emitted by mobile devices have been categorized as ‘possibly carcinogenic’ by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

For the study, the researchers looked at how flavoproteins, proteins that are vital to the health of the nervous system and DNA repair, were affected by exposure to weak magnetic fields (WMFs.) Negative impact on these proteins could have serious after effects on the body’s overall health and wellness.

But, they found that after exposing the flavoproteins to the WMFs that they were completely unaffected. The researchers say that there is still more work to be done to further the study but that their results could lead to further evidence that mobile devices are more than likely to be safe for humans.
