Biography
Dr. Vilas Saldanha M.D. is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with accompanying Fellowship training in Adult Joint Reconstruction and Orthopedic Trauma. In addition, he is certified in advanced robotic surgical procedures. His specialties include: Hip Replacement Knee Replacement Hip and Knee Revisions Fracture Care Trauma Injuries Following completion of his Clinical Orthopedics Training, Dr. Saldanha volunteered for deployment to Afghanistan with the U.S. Air Force. While serving, he founded the first Humanitarian Orthopedic Clinic treating women and children displaced by the wars on Bagram Air Force Base in the region. While overseas Dr. Saldanha performed over 350 operations. Upon returning to the United States Dr. Saldanha trained and served as an Orthopedic Traumatologist, assisting active duty Airmen in war trauma treatment techniques that could be used in the field and assisted in the development of the "Sustained Medical Airman Readiness Training (SMART)" program for the 99th Surgical Operations Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. From 2013-2016, Dr. Saldanha was an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery with the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He completed further education in complex Adult Reconstruction under renowned surgeon Dr. Anthony Hedley. Dr. Saldanha remains actively involved in orthopedic research. He is an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Advanced Joint Reconstruction and has published numerous articles in additional peer reviewed journals. In 2019, Dr. Saldanha received his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business. Dr. Saldanha finished his career in the Air Force as a Major. He received several awards including: Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, as well as induction into the American Orthopedic Association's Emerging Leader Program, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

At age 95, Mom tripped over her dog, breaking the socket end off her hip bone. Ambulance driver recommended St. David’s in RR. X-Rays showed the extremely painful damage and they called in Dr. Saldanha. He assessed the X-Rays, then assured Mom that with a new hip the pain would be gone and she could get back to being herself again.
It’s a year later, she’s dancing, dinner with friends every evening, walks without a cane when she wants to. She says her body doesn’t even know her hip was replaced! Super Doctor and super outcome!!
