Visiting Dr Elangovan has been a life-changing experience for me. Dealing with ADHD as an adult was overwhelming, but Dr Elangovan’s guidance made all the difference. His genuine understanding and patient approach helped ease my initial doubts about seeking treatment. With Dr Elangovan, I found not just a psychiatrist, but a true ally in my journey. Starting treatment, I was amazed at how quickly things began to change for the better. Nights became restful again, and my days turned more focused and calm. It felt like a cloud had lifted, allowing me to enjoy life’s moments more fully. Friends and family noticed the change too, seeing a happier and more balanced me. Dr Elangovan’s warm and thorough care has been pivotal in this transformation. He’s not just about prescriptions; he’s about listening and adapting to what you really need. In every session with Dr Elangovan, I felt understood and respected. His expertise in ADHD, especially for adults, is outstanding, but it’s his compassionate nature that truly sets him apart. I am deeply thankful for his support and cannot recommend him enough.

I would like to highly recommend Dr ElanGovan. My daughter has several complex disorders, schizophrenia , autism spectrum disorder, adhd and complex depression disorder. We have had seven years of absolutel hell living with this and trying to keep her alive. She was suicidal and very unstable with very bad life choices. Dr ElanGovan has been our life saver, he has been honest and sympathetic to our case. My daughter is now recovering and doing incredibly well ,living independently and part time work. She has had several treatments of TMS(transcranial magnetic stimulation) and the difference it has made to her moods ,sleep and general all over health has been remarkable. She has the support of the hospital and Dr ElanGovan while she has treatment at the hospital for her condition. Dr ElanGovan always insists on family meetings and listens to what we all have to say about her ongoing condition and offers support and encouragement. He has made incredible contributions to my daughter’s health and wellbeing and we will continue working with him . He ordered dna bloodwork to be done and that made a massive difference as my daughter is resistant to most medications. That created a list of medication we would be able to use for her treatment. My whole family would recommend any person going through mental health challenges to reach out to this forward thinking Phychiatrist.

After seeing two previous psychiatrists who poorly assessed and wrongly diagnosed me, Dr Soman thoroughly assessed and diagnosed me with ADHD. As a healthcare professional in my 20's, this diagnosis and commencing medication has greatly improved my quality of life and has allowed me to better understand myself. He also encouraged me to participate in a CBT program for ADHD which I was initially apprehensive about attending, however this program provided me more knowledge and practical skills to manage my ADHD. Since commencing medication and engaging in meaningful therapy I have been able to complete my post graduate studies and improve my work - life balance.

I have been a client of Professor Soman for four years. He is incredibly accurate in diagnosis and follow-up treatment. I was extremely resistant to seeking any assistance, mainly because I didn't believe it would make a difference to my ADHD. My brain would not stop, it would wake me with insignificant thoughts throughout the night, I had no emotional regulation, anger was my first response to anything that changed or I didn't like. Family and friends were on eggshells around me because they never knew how I was going to react. My first day of medication, I slept through the night. My brain was quieter. I could not believe it. It takes a couple of weeks for your dopamine levels to rise back to normal, so I was more tired than usual. Ten days into it, I felt so much better. My brain was like a computer with fifty different tabs open and now it was like there was four or five tabs open. So much more room to concentrate. My anger simmered out and I was able to communicate better because I could think before I reacted. My family and friends have noted how much more positive I am and are amazed that my anger has gone. I know it's so cliche, but Dr Soman really has changed my life for the better. It may be costly but Dr Soman doesn't stuff around, he gets straight to it, with no judgement and he would never book an appointment unnecessarily. He absolutely is worth it. I can not say enough how amazing he is.

He has been my doctor maybe almost 2 years now. One of the most if not the most knowledgeable doctors I have been to.

I saw Dr. Olangovan at a time period where my life was falling to pieces. I lost my girlfriend, had a tax audit from the ATO, suspended from uni due to mental health, was fresh out of the hospital from anxiety which I thought was a heart attack, my self employment industry and career was facing downturns and I was in a tough place with life.

After the positive reviews online for this doctor particularly for ADHD I was very excited to meet with him. He recommenced my adhd medications which were ceased without anything to help. So I abruptly came off after years of treatment.

I was completely honest with him about everything. It was my mistake. He ordered for drug urine screens, bloods and basically was so nice with his character that it almost made me think for like 2 months I was on the right track.

Upon reflection, he treated me like a junkie drug addict despite all my pathology tests coming back with healthy results. He prescribed the absolute tiniest dosage possible for adhd. I was glad to have at least something to have me cope with life but his treatment plan was extremely conservative.

He is no doubt knowledgeable and well established from his studies around the world in academia.

I knew that I required a certain amount of meds psychopharmacological wise to function and conquer my life stresses that were unbearable. His approach was seeing me as someone who abuses medications or drugs while being very calm and nice with me.

I was disappointed with my experience with Soman. He failed to deliver as a Doctor. I booked appointments and made proceedings to get my adhd under control in subsequent months. Luckily through trial and error I could find the right Doctor and now my quality of life in all domains is incredibly healthy and good.

While I do have a unique condition, according to Psychiatrists in my life, rarely do patients present in my way. I experience a certain psychiatric condition that comes and goes. Only some psychiatrists are willing to prescribe in alignment with my outside the bell curve situation.

I’ll wrap this up here. If you’re hoping to receive personalised individualised medication plan in accordance to your condition/s, I wouldn’t see him. He looked me dead in the face and told me the truth. He’s involved in so many professional and academic representations that he can’t be delivering treatment that I require/d. That was good honesty and telling me how it is, that he understood my situation but feared professionally and socially any impact on his career and prestigious status due to my presentation - he said he understood my condition but other doctors are likely to be in a better position to treat me (due to above mentioned).

I feel anxiety typing this however, I hope if you’re a patient with a complex presentation and are outside of the “usual” treatment scenarios guided by their studies and clinical experience, then I say don’t get your hopes up too much.

Lastly, I needed a Doctor who could treat me based on my lived experience and not what is according to “95% of patients respond in XYZ way; therefore, we will treat the patient based on the majority of the population and how they respond”.

I believe there are distribution consistencies in demographics however some people will always be a minority in statistics and be rare cases. If the literature doesn’t completely account for these >5% of cases, combined with a chaotic life environment and accompanying condition/s of mental health, this makes those who fall far left or right of the spectrum, very difficult to help.

In conclusion, I found a Doctor who is willing to treat me based off my life experience and lived truths, I simply told him exactly what I required and how I respond. He was able to help me a lot. It’s as simple as that.

Thank you for your time Dr Elangovan and I wish you the best. I hope this helps clarify things for complex patients requiring individualised care.

All the best!

I was recommended to see Dr Elangovan by my GP, after I went to see him about concerns of early onset dementia. After going over some other symptoms like anxiety and trying medication to reduce that, I still had concerns - so my GP advised I should I speak to a psychiatrist about ADHD. Being 38 I didn't really think it would boil down to that but I went with the recommendation, and I am so much happier now that I did.

Dr Elangovan listened to my concerns, didn't pass judgements like I for some reason expected I would get given my age and explained the underlying reasons why he felt I was actually undiagnosed ADHD. My treatment began shortly after, and I am now a year down the track and much more aware of myself and my "quirks". He also recommended me to a great CBT course that is run for out-patients at the Belmont Private Hospital - I also highly recommend you get along to that if you can. It's such a supportive group.

Thank you Dr Elangovan.

Words cannot express how much worse I felt after walking out of Dr. Elangovans office. During my consultation I was made to feel ridiculed for coming to seek professional help and left feeling that coming forth after years of struggles were for naught. Thankfully I’ve found another Doctor who from the first session was open and actually receptive.

I cannot say that my experience with Dr Elangovan was consistent with the last two reviews. Dr Elangovan presented as very professional and personable. He was articulate and took the time to explain how ADHD can present in non-typical ways. He has a high degree of emotional intelligence, and a comprehensive understanding on the relative literature.
