Dr. Tsai gives me mixed emotions I know that she is well-established and is very knowledgable but some of her comments to me were out of pocket. She said that after my spinal cord injury I could walk and stand if I just worked on my muscles. On another occasion she said I can take active role in my recovery if just move my arms around when she knows I can only move one limb out of 34 of my limbs. She has no bedside manner and is very cutthroat.

I got an appointment to see Dr. Chung Tsai and I was reschedule twice with not respect for me taking days off without pay in order to see her. When I finally got it I was really disappointed at her for the lack or interest while I was explaining my pain. She was disrespectful and rude. She just wanted to fill her report and get out of work. I know for a fact that she is a good surgeon and it took maybe ten years of her life to become one, but that does not give her the right to be rude and unpleasant, I almost cry for the way she addressed me with not feelings what so ever, it was like I was talking to a robot, a doctor has to have empathy toward his/her patients. It is sad that Dr. Chung Tsai lost her humanity in all those years of University and training and make me wonder if the good reviews down below are from relatives because, I doubt if they are from the sick and weak!

I was scheduled very quickly for an appointment after my referral was made. I was then booked for surgery very quickly after. All of my calls to her office were returned in a timely manner and all of my needs were addressed at appointments.

I was not looking for a best friend, I was in need of a skilled and dedicated neurosurgeon and that is who Dr. Tsai. Very brilliant, no nonsense, and provided me with risks and considerations. She skillfully performed a Discectomy on me at L5-S1. I woke up with no pain down my left leg for the first time in almost 3 years. Dr. Tsai took care of a massive super imposed herniation, that crippled me for 12 excruciating weeks. No complaints, no complications. She gave me my life back. Please do not get all bent out of shape because she does not have the bedside manner of Florence Nightingale. If you want a skilled, well educated, and talented neurosurgeon, Dr. Tsai is just that.

She has terrible people skills which are only dwarfed by her bedside manner. I don't know what she does on the computer when I was talking to he because she was not listening to me, having already reached a diagnosis by looking at a previous MRI and blaming diabetes for all my pain. # years later, I;m in Toronto and awaiting spine surgery for severe stenosis in 3 areas of my spine. TI knew she was wrong because what ever I was carrying in my left hand was dropped when I turned my head right.

I have yet to meet with Dr. Tsai but so far, they've lost 2 referrals, my updated MRI results and consultation results and must now hunt for all these documents and deliver them in person in hopes that they don't lose it a 3rd time. This is after a 6 month waiting period not knowing they were waiting for an updated MRI in which we only found out about it after calling to make sure they got the referral. So far, I am NOT impressed with the staff. I will update once I see the doctor however.

I have had chronic neck pain for 10 months now and was referred to Dr. Tsai. She triaged me as level 1, and I saw her within a week (which I thought was promising so I was very hopeful to get answers and hopefully fix my injury to my neck). I have a herniated disc in my C5-C6 and have all the hallmark symptoms that go along with this type of injury. After waiting several hours in the waiting room, I had the worst doctor experience of my life (and I've seen over a dozen specialists by now). I am a young active 25 year old and my chronic pain has been crippling at times and has severely affected my life.
Right away Dr. Tsai was hostile and rude. It's almost like she judged me as soon as I walked into the room. Despite my obvious herniation shown on my MRI that was put up on her computer screen, she told me that my pain was not related to my herniation at all, and that I am essentially "lazy". She told me that I need to strengthen my neck muscles and my pain is because my neck muscles are weak.
She showed zero empathy or compassion towards me and was not listening to a word I was saying. I immediately started crying because I know my body and I know from all of the research that I have done that my pain is definitely caused by my herniation. She was just staring at me blankly and did not give me any advice whatsoever.
Since she wasn't saying anything I decided to leave her office. My mom was with me, and she also had a look of shock and confusion as to what the hell was going on. Since we had been sitting and waiting for hours, my neck was really hurting at this point, so I asked my mom if she could grab my bag for me because lifting anything puts strain on my neck.
Dr. Tsai then decided to make a snide remark saying "see, this is why you have neck pain, you get your mom to carry your bag for you". I just looked at her horrified not understanding how a neurosurgeon could be so ignorant and rude and I ran out of her office balling.

I also just found out that a family friend had a very similar experience with Dr.Tsai (which is why I am finally writing a review on here), telling her that even though her MRI showed she had discs grinding together, her pain was not coming from that and that it was because she was out of shape and needed to work out more.
Dr. Tsai is the worst doctor I have seen, I believe she may be burnt-out. So unbelievably unprofessional, unhelpful, and rude. The way she treated me is not okay and I am going to follow through with further complaints with the hospital. Her report is now affecting the new specialists i'm seeing because they see that she's a neurosurgeon and that because she is a surgeon, whatever she says must be right. This is so ignorant it makes me so unbelievably upset.
This is my life that is being restricted by chronic pain and some doctors are simply not sensitive to that.

Told me to “consider the marathon runner and push through the pain”. Another doctor operated on me years later. I feel way better. Was not a pain to be “pushed through”.

Was operated upon by Dr. Tsai in 2016 October for spinal issues. The consultation, surgery and care provided by her and her team were excellent. I never felt rushed, always received detailed information and had a very positive experience while under her and her team's care. The nursing and rehab staff at Civic and later on in Gen, Rehab centre were excellent as well during the nearly 1 and a half month stay. Follow-ups were punctural, thorough and extremely helpful.
