went in october or november had been violently choking and gagging on nothing apparent and it started in the middle of a sentence (full body movement the gagging was severe). was triaged within an hour which is a ridiculous standard for it to be considered fast. arrived around 12-12:30 am and didnt get a room until 4 hours minimum later. doctor checked my throat and said there wasnt any visible obstruction and was going to send me home with some steriods. I started shouting at a nurse (sorry to the nurse she was actually doing her goddamn job) and she got the doctor to come back in. was sent for an x-ray which didnt reveal anything so he decided to send a scope down my nose. was extremely painful even with the numbing agent he had to force the scope through at several point due to inflammation and blah blah. he says he couldnt see anything but when i go to blow my nose out comes the blood clot i was choking on. doctor and his buddy in the room with him both seem clearly surprised and doctor says AND I QOUTE "I'm going to have the radiologist take a second look at your x-rays" and he rushed out of the room looking like he'd connected some sort of dots, only to come back another 30-45 minutes later and tell me to go home. it took 8 hours for them to properly treat me and the inflammation and feeling of something lodged in my right airway hasnt completely gone away since and its almost the end of January. I had to scream at a nurse for them to take me seriously and they were going to send me home with a couple pills. I understand the government screws them over but where do they get off dismissing patients without f--king listening. will never ever ever ever ever return to this hospital is a waste of money and time. I was seriously CHOKING and GAGGING and still waited minimum 4 hours to see a doctor. you get a zero on service and value.
When my daughter was there she had the most horrible experience, poor care from the nurses, and I had to complain to the head nurse. They wanted to speak French to my daughter, when we made it clear to speak English, they spoke to her partner in French about my daughter's health situation...(?) Waited so long for emergency surgery, and now I know that we will never go there for medical care ever. One good comment is that my daughter had an a very good surgeon who explained what was going to happen, and explained post surgery care for us.
It was the worst experience that I have ever had in Ottawa at the emergency unit. I have a back problems and my first entry to the emergency was this hospital, I could not move my legs, got at the Hospital some pain killers, which did not relieve much of the pain and I was sent in tears from the hospital, in pain. I had to go the next day to the Civic Hospital to be examined. The worst personal and also acquaintances experience related to important and difficult health problems. If one has a bad cough or flu, doctors may know what to do, otherwise, one is sent home with heavy pain killer medications. These were roughly my experiences, and I personally will avoid this hospital.
This is only one of my horrible experiences at this hospital! Ive had bad luck in multipule departments here! During labor, I was refused a doctor for 10 hours! (From the moment they induced me to the moment i gave birth) Refused to let me be checked if I was ready for an epidural. They refused for so long that by the time a doctor finally walked in, my baby's head was almost crowning! The nurse then pressured me into agreeing to let a bunch of students watch... (I said no 3 times and she kept asking so I felt like I had to say yes) They then wanted a drug test from my babys urine..why? I don't know, they wouldn't tell me. But they refused to let me leave the hospital without one. 3 days of tape on my daughters vagina. Ripping get it off like they were giving her a Brazilian wax... the poor mom on the other side of the curtain in my shared room didn't have good luck either. They blamed her baby's heart problems on her!

She’s so kind and her bedside manner is impeccable. She was my obstetrician when I was pregnant and now follows me in gynaecology.
