I will be forever thankful to Dr. Haw and his excellent surgical team, for treating my aneurysm so quickly and saving me from what could of been a fatal outcome. I still can’t believe I actually had this surgery done….I was pain free coming out of surgery. Dr. Haw has done so much for me…his excellent surgical skills….considerate attitude. I feel very fortunate to be his patient. I now have a better life ahead, no worries of an rupturing aneurysm, and after all these years I am comfortable having anesthesia, thanks to the brilliant anesthesiologist. Such a caring bunch of professional people..sure makes this a better world. Thank you all so very much. Doreen

It was a mistake to leave this physician a 5 star review a few years back. Do yourself a favour, avoid this physician. This physician lied to me for nearly a year after my 2nd procedure. What actually happened did not happen because of something that went wrong during the 1st procedure. I was never told the truth until almost a year later of complaining about my pain. Both him and his colleague were so dismissive that the other miss-disagnosed me and was very dismissive. I was told to go on medications. I was promised that the physician would not give up on me, that nobody is. When medications failed to solve the problem, the physician threw in the towel and gave up. Told me that if I have another surgery, I will die. So whether I have another surgery to try to end my pain, I die. Whether I go through MAID to end my pain, I die. Stay away from this physician at all cost. Go else where otherwise in the end, your end result may very well be mine, death.

I have just celebrated one year after my MVD for Trigeminal Neuralgia. It was close to a 10 year journey to properly diagnos this rare condition. I was able to say Dr Honey from UBC who referred me to Dr. Haw. Within just minutes of looking at my MRI they were both able to see the nerve constricted by blood vessel. This after many other Specialists failed to see this on my MRI and just tell me it was Psychosomatic pain from Depression. He was a clear communicator and answered my questions - didn't go into all the possibilities to get me more worked up. The surgery was successful and have been pain free for one year! :) My family and I are grateful to Dr Haw and his team at VGH. We are fortunate to have him in our region.

I find Dr. Charles Haw to be very knowledgeable and gracious. I met Dr. Haw nearly one year ago on October 1, 2020. When my daughter and I met him at his office and he thoroughly explained to me what needed to be done. This is when I saw my brain tumor for the first time.

By the 13th of October 2020 Dr. Charles Haw had operated on my brain tumor removing 90% of it. The other 10% very mingled in my brain. The tumor was cancer and at the time I was told they could annihilate the cancer with radiation. Dr. Haw patched the hole in my forehead with Titanium mesh, screws, and filled with Acrylic cement. The Titanium mesh acts as re-bar does in concrete. Dr. Haw must be a bit of an artist because to look at me you would never know anything had been done. He shaped it to imitate the other side of my forehead and the scar is behind my hairline.

Every milestone in my recovery was told to me by Dr. Haw as he answered all of my questions and concerns. Every one came true, just like he said. He saw me frequently in hospital. Now it is nearly one year later and my scalp is feeling closer and closer to normal.

After a PET scan and a bone marrow biopsy I was told I have cancer in three other paces as well. This means radiation was no longer available to me. I have now completed 9 cycles of Chemotherapy and have a 90% response, which they at the Cancer Clinic consider a complete response. They tell me there is no cure for my kind of cancer but this could give me a year before I will need more treatment (that is the average).

I appreciate Doctor Charles Haw very much. I would not hesitate to ask him to help me again if I needed it. I would recommend him to a friend. He’s a very kind and caring man and very professional.

Thank-you Dr. Haw.

My experience with Doctor Charles Haw was purely by luck of the draw , I was flown in a helicopter ambulance from the Comox valley to VGH i was so caught of guard, i didn’t even know I had something wrong inside my brain , all I felt yo have me concerne was that my scalp was tingly to the touch and my left eye wasn’t closing all the way so I went to emergency they did a cat scan and then , I had a very scary diagnoses , I had no idea how close I came to kicking the bucket , and that’s when I met Doctor Haw , he said a bunch of fancy long words that I didn’t understand, he said I had tiny blood veins that were all tangled and it needed untangle, he said it would be a 8 hours surgery, but ended up taking him 10 hours , when I came to , he told me he found 3 aneurism on top of my initial tangled blood vessels, so after me not even knowing that I had any problems inside my head , Doctor Charles Haw made this experience tolerable , I have no side affect and have full motor skills and if it weren’t for the #7 scar on the back of my head , no one would even know that I had this surgery:) I give him a10out of 10 ratings . He’s the best

He removed a mass from my right ventricle near the brain stem. It was golf ball sized, he cut it up in pieces and took them out 1 by 1 because was not sure what it was attached to. Surgery took 5 hours. He removed every last piece of it. He is the best there is.
