I had a hip replacement in my late 60s after a couple of years of declining mobility and chronic pain and in my case the results could not have been better. From the first assessment at the Complex Joint Clinic by a therapist to my initial consultation with Dr Garbuz to the day of my surgery, the follow up and all the telephone calls in between, I always felt that I was in the hands of true professionals who understood my situation and cared about my well-being. They were all polite and friendly and prior to my surgery they all assured my wife and me that after the procedure my mobility and my life would return to normal. They were not wrong!

My procedure was at UBC hospital and from the pre-op nurse who prepped me for surgery to the anesthesiologist who spent the time to fully explain what I was going to receive and was there when I came out of surgery, the post-op nurse who didn't leave my side in the recovery room and the nurses who took care of me overnight, I don't think I could have been better well cared for if I had paid thousands of dollars for this surgery. One small thing that many people might think as insignificant is that prior to going into the operating room, one of Dr Garbuz's surgical team came to me and asked which hip was being operated on. I told him my right hip, he nodded in agreement and took a sharpie or something and marked my right hip so that there would be no mistake in the operating room. This was a small thing but it gave me a huge sense of relief at a time when I was already nervous that at least I knew that the correct hip was going to be replaced.

We all hear daily about the short-comings in our health care system but I felt none of that. Throughout the process I felt that the care givers actually cared and while the chronic pain disappeared immediately after surgery, now some months after my hip replacement I am back to about 90-95% of my normal mobility and improving incrementally every day. It has changed my life!

Thank you Dr. Garbuz, associates and staff!

I came to the complex joint clinic, after a full knee replacement. After extreme pain for close to a year, I had the pleasure of seeing Dr Howard. I had a 2 stage. She was incredible. Dr Garbuz took me on for the
3 rd surgery 6 months after that, and a 4th small one to remove some wires. It is now 2 years after my first replacement, and I am completely out of pain for the first time! Also, I have a 110 bend, and zero extension, and I’m out walking again, and fully functional! I have no words to express how grateful I am to Dr Garbuz. Not only has he done good by me, he has followed up numerous times!! Dr Garbuz, you and your team, and Wella, and Alexa, and all of you, I say Thank you thank you THANKYOU! You gave me my quality of life back. Mary Shepherd, Yukon

Do you want a fighter pilot or an HR "professional" to cut you open, cut off your femoral head, ream out your pelvis, hammer a spike down your leg and close you back up again. All of the negative reviews are about his bedside manner which to be honest is perfect and honest. There is not one review on here that said some left with a leg an inch longer etc. He's not going to rub your back and make you feel better. He will take the time to answer your questions and will do so in a very complete manner. Want to know why he uses the imply he does? He will tell you. Want to know why he uses the approach he uses? He will tell you and go through the data with you. I did a lot of research before choosing to have my hip replaced at 37 and came to him with a million questions about approaches, implant types, functionality etc. and he answered all of them. Your main concern should be is this guy an incredible surgeon. Not does he make me feel good.

I had a hip replacement done in Feb and the whole process went smoothly from pre op to post op. Dr Garbuz explained everything in my initial visit, I had the surgery, then a follow up phone call which he answered any questions I had. He is very kind and super knowledgeable. Glad he was my surgeon, I had such great care throughout the whole process. His assistant Wella is so nice, very very efficient and also very knowledgeable. She goes above and beyond, he is lucky to have her working for him. My surgery was at UBC Hospital, from the minute I arrived in pre op I felt like I was being waited on hand and foot. Everyone was super kind and attentive. All the staff was great, I received a phone call the next day to make sure all was OK and checking if I had questions. Dr Garbuz and his team do an excellent job. Thanks again, I appreciate all your hard work

I had total left knee replacement Feb.05 2020. Covid restrictions hit 2 months later. Was cut off from physio, and rehab. No direction what to do at home for 4 months. Only contact for concerns filtered by receptionist, till I finally got some video chat in June by surgeon, that didn't go well. Nothing since.I called a few times with some pain concerns and was told.."no pain, no gain". Finally got physio in June 2020. To date(19 months later) North of my knee cap still has scar, pain, can't take two knees to say prayers. Have had increasing knee problems for 30 years.(now 65). Was told to get in to see Doctor Garbuz. Here I am.
