Dr. Frank Wong changed my life is a terrible way and it was completely avoidable.

Dr. Wong removed a tumor from my front left sinus twice, ELECTING to use an ear to ear incision behind my hairline, pull down my face and cut open my skull bone. THIS SURERGY COULD HAVE BEEN DONE THROUGH MY NOSE BOTH TIMES- I found this out after I changed surgeons for another opinion. The second surgery he cut too high-> INTO MY BRAIN. He then had to take off most of my forehead bone for the neurosurgeon to fix the cerebrospinal fluid leak and HE DROPPED IT ON THE GROUND. He put me back together after that and put my forehead bone in an offset position which has left me disfigured from my previous appearance. I was left with headaches, body soreness, a massive scar visible behind my hairline. On a recent MRI it shows it have LIQUEFICATION OF MY BRAIN where he cut into in. I have a dull swollen feeling behind my left eye all the time and I'm prone to headaches. My eye is slightly popped out of my skull. I could have all these surgeries done endoscopically and in fact, i didn't need to have the second surgery done. This guys methods are archaeic and his bed sidme manor is horrible.

I would not recommend Dr. Frank Wong. He recommended surgery for me to correct chronic sinus infections. I had black eyes, a packed nose and stints put up my nostrils. I have allergies to narcotics and he left a prescription for me when I came out of the anaesthetic for codeine (which I am allergic to). I even had a bracelet on that had my allergies all spelled out on it. The next time I went to see him he had a student with him. He said, this patient thinks she has a sinus infection, but she doesn't. I was mortified. I then went to see my G.P. and she said, you have a fever and in fact, YOU DO HAVE A SINUS INFECTION. She recommended a surgeon in Vancouver, a God Send. He has been incredible. He took a CTScan of my sinuses and told me all Dr. Wong had don nothing for me except poke a bunch of holes in my sinuses. He showed me the CTScan, he was right. I had surgery in Vancouver with this new ENT guy. It was a 3.5 hour surgery that was completely successful. He showed me the new CTScan where my new clean sinuses were now. I had no packing, no stints, and no black eyes. Just a bit of a headache when I came out of the surgery. I was home the next day. I would never use Dr. Wong.

I will try to write my review with all facts, but I have to say my experience with Dr. F Wong is my life time nightmare! I went in to see him because of me nasal congestion and whether this caused my headache. Dr. Wong suggest to have a surgery done to open up the inside of the nose in order to help the congestion and maybe this can help with the headache. Before the surgery, when I asked him whether the surgery would change the appearance of my nose, he said "no". When I check with him whether the surgery involves in cutting any bones in my nose, he said "it depends". Why this cannot be decided prior to the surgery? After the surgery, obviously he cut the bones in my nose but didn't prescribe any antibiotics for potential affections. After a week, I was not recovering and went in to see him. He was away, so another doctor saw me, confirmed the affection and prescribed me antibiotics. Another a week later, I got better, but I found that a part of my nose disappeared! He cut part of the bones inside at supratip break, so the nasal bridge collapsed. There is a hollow or sunken part on the nasal bridge near the tip points. Because of that, looking from the side, my nose is no longer straight, but with a pit. Looking from the front, the tip part collapsed and bigger expanding to both sides of face because there is no support in side of my nose anymore; the tear trough part looks very obvious because there is no bridge between nasion and the tip point of my nose any more. The nose looks bigger and flattened. Especially in cold weather, the tear trough looks even worse with a very obvious line on each side of my nose. All my family and friends right away noticed the change of my nose after the surgery. Some friends I met after the surgery could not even recognize me from my pre-surgery photos! What is even worse than this is the surgery actually didn't really help my nasal congestion and my headache. I went back to see Dr. Wong because of the change in the appearance of my nose. He said ( I am quoting what he has actually said to me): "That's not a problem, just a little difference. We can just cut some from the back of your ear and put back to your nose. Just a small surgery." Then I asked him about the nasal congestion, He said:"It is natural. Everyone has some milky discharge just like the dusts. Everyone is like that." I was very disappointed with him but I didn't want to do another surgery. I went to see another nose specialist and she said it was not necessary to do the surgery and there is no research showing the direct cause of headache from nasal congestion. I used be very proud of the look of my nose, but now I feel very bad of myself. I know that I decided to do the surgery so I should be responsible, but it was Dr. Wong who told me that the surgery would not change the appearance of my nose and the success rate to help nasal congestion is 75%. I trusted him as a professional doctor, but what he did not help at all; his surgery not only changed the appearance of my nose, but also failed to help with my nasal problem.

I have been living with chronic pain for 2 years. Started with pain in my lower jaw and ear this resulted in my 2 back molars removed... Pain never subsided. I am on the highest dose of Lyrica with breakthrough narcotics that I take every 4 hours. So the journey began, off to neurologists, interternist, pain specialist, MRI, cat scans ENT's I am so thankful that our group of ENT's in the city of Victoria bc are professional and have good working relations. So this review also sends a shout out to Dr. Pathak and Dr. Mostachfi who were not ready to give up on me and wanted another set of eyes. Thank you is not enough Dr. Mostachfi considered a rare condition "Eagle Syndrome"this was my path to Dr. Wong.
Dr.Wong is not warm and fuzzy, but I did not go in for a hug! He looked at my array of reports and agreed to take my case . He gave me homework for managing pain, we tried a series of treatments, including steroid injection. Dr Wong's approach was thorough but conservative. After exhausting all non surgical choices he gave me the option of surgery. Giving very real expectations in my case 50/50".
After researching the procedure and the risks associated I decided not to proceed. This was early spring our weather was mild. My crippling discomfort was directly associated with cool weather, any sort of breeze etc. I decided in the fall of 2014 I would and needed to proceed with the surgery.
Today I sit 1 week post op and write this review pain free! I am not without some numbness, I have shots of nerve pain, mild headaches but the underlying nagging non stop pain I have lived with for 2 years is absent... Something I never thought I would say. Some would call it a miracle I give all the credit to Dr Wong ...

Cant understand these negative comments! He is clearly the most experienced specialist in town, but he treats you as an adult, and doesn't pull punches. Tells you the facts as he sees them. gives you choices. He is always prompt, skilled, and does neat and tidy surgery. Doesnt make mistakes, and doesnt promise what he cant deliver. Maybe its personal preference, but I prefer to deal with a competent no nonsense professional

Impatient man. I found him offhand and dismissive. I believe in hitting doctors where it hurts them most; in the wallet. Do what I do, don't return.

Echo other comments. POOR manner with patients. Not curious or interested how or what the patient feels. Doesn't listen to you, has his mind made up. Time for him to retire. Office staff also dour and unfriendly. What a terrible office. NEVER recommended. I'm firing him, and no longer trust him, don't want him to do my surgery for septum, didn't seem interested at all in my other symptoms, six months of heavy nasal flow, tinnitus, painful pressure, and general ill health and lethargy. Pathetic!
