It's hard to say the whole experience was a pleasure - most surgeries are not, but I was sure and felt 1) that my true needs and necessities were being fully dealt with, 2) that they were fulfilled skillfully and expertly and 3) that all parties that I interacted with in this practice were kind and made me feel welcome in spite of my natural nervousness. What an exceptional surgeon and all-round wonderful human! Skilled beyond comparison, but also genuinely caring and kind-spirited (and surprisingly funny!)
I felt safe, very swiftly, and was treated with respect at all times, not only by Dr Cowan, but by his talented nurses and excellent administrative staff. Dr Cowan also gave me choice and agency over my own body when it mattered most, as well as the procedural understanding that I required in order to make sound choices. I couldn't be more impressed, or more grateful, that this doctor is available within the public health care system. His entire practice is, as my husband said: "A pocket of exceptional competency within our broken health care system." It speaks volumes about him as a person that he's serving the public, rather than in a private plastic surgery practice--we truly wish there were more of him!

Strange as it may seem it is like going home for proper care - even with apprehension and worry yet the team working there give a comfortable feeling and an atmosphere of patience. Dr. Cowan is unique - he is very focused while doing what needs to be done and has a way to make you feel calm at the same time. He takes time to listen while going ahead. It is so reassuring knowing you are in very good hands both with him and with his team of nursing assistants. I left feeling so confident and surprised after having a serious procedure done - that amazes me. It is so refreshing to be there with very well trained and considerate people who know their jobs well. I am still feeling delighted and happy to have my surgery done by Dr. Cowan.

After Dr. Cowan skillfully cut out a twisted, deep-seated tumor on my father's face, I saw a vast and deep hole in his cheek. Dr. Cowan said that he would cover it with a patch of skin cut from my father's shoulder. I imagined with horror how deformed my father's face would look after such an operation. To calm myself, I joked that at 93 he was not likely considering to marry again. A month later I marveled at how normal my father's face looked. No one would notice that he had undergone surgery. Dr. Cowan is a unique surgeon and a compassionate person. We'll be always grateful and feel blessed to have met him in a desperate situation that he turned into a miracle.

I was so worried going in for MOHS surgery to remove a BCC on my cheek; it's my face after all. Beginning with the friendly front office staff and the efficient and patient prep surgical team I was immediately put at ease. Dr. Cowan's knowledge, expertise and sense of humour during and after the surgery is a 10/10 in my books. The results are even more amazing, as all the cancer was removed and the scar is practically invisible. Highly recommend Dr. Cowan and his team. Thank you for taking such great care of me.

More than three hours in the waiting room. Placated with false assurances about expected outcomes for a small BCC. Actual result is hideous. I cry every day.
