I had a car accident in 2021 and was passed around from one Ortho surgeon to another. I finally landed on Dr Whelan after 2 of his colleagues recommended him as almost 2 years had passed and I wasn't taken seriously. I met Dr Whelan in May of 2023 and I was scheduled for surgery within 3 months. I need a patella re-construction which dislocated my knee cap. He was straightforward and direct and I couldn't be more pleased with his work. He does have his students explain a lot during the follow up appointments, but what do you expect, its a teaching hospital. Although he could come off as dismissive at times, I'm sure that has to do with the room full of clients that are waiting for him. With that said, he always answered any questions I had and I am so happy that he was my surgeon. I don't think he is arrogant, he just knows what he's talking about and is efficient with his him.

The worst experience I had with any doctor in my life. Ignorant, arrogant who teaches his resident during my 7 minutes session. He stood in door frame not even coming inside the room to examine my injury and answer my questions. Unfortunately we pay taxes to have free health care that these unprofessional get to deliver really poor work. I regret I didnot read the reviews before wasting my time.

Six years ago, I tore my ACL playing soccer at the age of 53. Sports and physical fitness are important to me and I was concerned that the injury would negatively impact my lifestyle in a significant manner. Dr. Whelan and his staff were excellent in all aspects of the surgery and following six months of recovery, I was able to resume physical activities. In fact, my soccer season recently ended and my knee felt as strong as ever.
I was very happy with Dr. Whelan and am extremely grateful.

My experiences with Dr. Danny Whelan have only be positive over the years. Following the sports injury to my knee, he walked through a recovery plan well before surgery was introduced as a solution. He and his team completed a successful High Tibial Osteotomy on my leg and I am now back on the courts, golf courses and ski hills. He gave me a new lease on (active and pain-free) life for my years 50 +!
His manner may be direct, but it is because he has years of experience at the highest medical level and he has seen every type of orthopedic injury. He is a friendly human and has rightly earned the respect of his students, peers and patients.

Worst orthopedic surgeon, arrogant and ignorant and his students tell you to order from shoe laces from Amazon. The reality is to know how dangerous these professionals are, this individual will not be making big money once provincial government makes health private. He will be public health and not main stream sports. Competency and expertise simply is not there.

Disregard the racist comment below. "unless you're a white guy maybe he will be nice to you" I am a person of colour and Dr. Whelan did an amazing job on my surgeries.

Dr Whalen doesnt take the time to listen or understand what you are going through. he makes alot of assumptions about you as a person. I had to see him after my MVA and didnt have a choice but to keep going. He made me feel like my issues were not a big deal and as though I was faking my injuries. Its years later and I am still in pain. He had terrible bed side manner. Unless youre also a white guy perhaps It seems as per the below comments. Maybe he will be nice to you.

Dr. Whelan is an incredible doctor. I had a fall and ended up getting a large hematoma in my leg, and I went to two different hospitals and saw four different doctors and everyone disregarded how serious the issue was. I ended up getting an infection from this due to the lack of care in medical professionals. Dr. Whelan immediately took action and started me on antibiotics. I am now very grateful that I am being looked after by a very knowledgeable and caring doctor. I highly recommend him. Thank you Dr. Whelan for all that you do! Your patients appreciate it greatly. I would like to also mention that you have incredible staff. Thank you to all of you!

Dr Daniel Whelan is the most phenomenal dr. I’ve ever met. He performed a complete hip reconstruction and a high tibial osteotomy on my husband. He changed my husband’s bandages and got him dressed post surgery. He didn’t tell a nurse to do it - he did it himself! I’ve never seen a surgeon with this level of care. He’s an expert in his field and so knowledgeable and skilled. He has given my husband a new lease on life after “the medical system failed him” (Dr Whelan’s words), after having 19 knee surgeries since the time he was 14. When surgeons in our home city didn’t take my husband’s hip pain seriously (saying it was from his knee), Dr Whelan discovered that he actually needed emergency surgery on it and scheduled him right away. We will never go to another orthopaedic surgeon (and my husband has been to MANY!) He’s simply phenomenal.
