This hospital saved my son life from bacterial meningitis which is extremely serious and potentially life ending or altering, especially considering the age of my son at the time which was 1.5 yes old. Thanks to the decisive actions of the ER doc and the quality care of all the MDs and nurses he was well taken care of. The nurses were phenomenal and kept us well informed. Our stay was welcoming and comforting considering the circumstances. You don't ever want to have to be in the hospital, especially for children but if you are this is the place to be. I cannot speak highly enough. Blessed and fortunate to have them here in Toronto.
My 11 year old daughter never had to be restrained and given sedatives before we went to Sick Kids emergency for help related to autism. All they did was torturing her, they didn't let her use the washroom, they kept her tied to the bed, and gave her sedatives 4 times within 12 hours. No water, no food . They discharged her 11 am telling us there is nothing else they can do, but because my daughter wasn't able to leave, she was sedated and in distress they used their security personnel to force my 11 year old out of the building, once we were outside, they called the police to pick us up around 6pm. The police tried to get us to CAMH, they didn't have services for kids, so we ended up at St Joseph hospital . At St Joseph's the psychiatrist was more understanding, we were able to calm down my daughter and go home, thanks Dr Ahmed. Sick Kids hospital offered no solution, they only escalated the problem, terrible experience. Do not take your autistic child there.
I'm so disappointed to see all the poor reviews on this hospital. My family practically lived in this hospital for 4 months while my little sister was suffering with a rare autoimmune brain disease. They've saved her life, along the way, yes I've met a nurse who seemed to be having a bad day, but I've also met probably 100 that were so thoughtful, caring, hard-working & smart. I absolutely love sick kids hospital. Amazing staff, including maintenance staff, who made it easier for us to get some sleep by turning some lights off in the ICU waiting room.
I had been sexually assaulted, and I was referred to the Motherisk Lab, to test my hair for what drugs were used (the Toronto Police Services would not do it) in the assault. I was quoted one price for a certain number of tests, but when Toronto Police Services refused to pay for them, the price went up. When I asked when could I expect my results back, I was told by the doctor (?) that my case was low priority, as was all sexual assault cases. They finally closed the lab, but now my evidence is gone, and that same schmuk still works at Sick Kids. This hospital needs to be more picky about who it chooses to hire, and support.
I had heel pain radiating to my leg and wasn't going to school. I went emergency they told they were going to do MRI but they did not all night I was given pain killers and 6 or 7 doctors came to see what the problem was they said they couldn't find out instead of doing MRI they sent me back home by saying we're going to give you a date for the appointment of MRI estimated time they told me was in about a week its been 4 weeks and still no call and suffering from pain.
During one emerg visit though my child (under 9) showed (inc fever & listlessness) symptomology of illness- they catered and gave preference to an large (aggressively active, noisy & boisterous) that brought over 5 persons to accompany one (allegedly though alert & active too) sick kid inc their neighbour to act as interpreter despite completely fluent- Note- these boisterous folk were even extended sandwiches & choice of beverages via audibly cheerful nurses! Then four hours later over 6 hrs later following a paediatric resident's assessment- audibly while we waited in the open hallway where others overheard- the resident disparagingly cited- they believed the problem stemmed from my non-capability to keep the house germ-free following defecating and touching the light switch- ditto my little kid- thereby theorizing my kid & I continuously infected ourselves (?) before abrasively discharging us before all the lab results returned!
