Absolutely useless, damaging, can’t see through manipulation and lies from clients, and the flow on affect it has on the clients families. Physical, sexual and emotional abuse goes unchecked, she isn’t interested in keeping people safe. Her “treatment” has ensured her clients family members continue to be abused by her client. Due to privacy legislation, nothing can be done.

I would not recommend Dr Sugars. She is unable to keep her personal views and values separate to her work, she doesn't follow basic safety protocols and this has been damaging to my mental health.

When I reached out to her about suicide attempts and trauma responses, she was not only dismissive, didn't provide any emergency resources, check on my safety, show any care or acknowledgement of what was going on for me but she also basically put the blame on me.

I'm not one to write reviews, especially with the intention to slander someone, howere, I believe her to damaging and would strongly suggest not seeing her if you have the intention of doing 'therapy' with her. She didn't respect my boundaries or professionally hold space for me.

She is good at medication and has a lot of knowledge but I don't think she is trauma informed, (can't find that information anywhere, you may notice her credentials on here are also empty), however, the way she interacted with me indicates that she is not and I don't believe she is qualified to handle trauma, although she insisted on getting into it with me.

Dr Sugars is the best. She was the first doctor to recognise my ADHD, when the umbrella of autism had clouded other doctors' views of me in the past. That or my evident anxiety / depression symptoms that really start with the ADHD. Dr Sugars is really perceptive, listens to what you say and how you say it - and even for me, who is not so good with the eye contact or non-verbals, she just gets me and can see what others have not been able to see. She takes me seriously and has the time to care for her patients. She has a bit of a dry sense of humour like me, is to the point (which is what I need in life) - but don't be alarmed by this! She is extremely compassionate, sensitive to her patient's needs and will identify insights that others don't see. Her willingness to explore what is going on with my life, getting to the core of what my concerns are and trying different treatment options has been a fantastic experience and allowed me to understand my options and what works best for me.
It was a bit of a wait to see her at first, but don't give up if you can get on her waitlist. My GP sent a follow up letter when I was in a bad spot before my first appointment, and Savoir Rooms found an earlier appointment for me when there was a cancellation. I am now booked in well in advance so I know I will continue to receive her care. She works well with my other medical team members too - informs my psychologist, GP of changes to my treatment plan - and finds contacts for other needs that are appropriate eg a dietician that understands the mind/gut connection. I am so grateful that I found her.

Dr Kate Sugars never gave up on me. She taught me about the roots of problems. She walked with me through every revisited trauma. Her time, her effort, her insight, empathy and wealth of knowledge and her personal awareness is why I am alive today and living a grateful and full life. Everything I am now, I owe to her. You would be a fortunate person to have her skill set and humanity on your side if you needed help.

Kate is friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. She is the kind of Dr that looks at you wholistically not focusing on medications alone. She has a sense of humour and is very relatable while still being professional. She is not afraid of calling you out if there is something you need to deal with but in a firm but caring way. Overall I have had a great experience with Kate.

Dr Sugars was my psychiatrist for 5 years. In this time we built up what I through was a good therapeutic relationship, I felt supported and cared for but when my mental health took a turn for the worst, when I needed her the most, she literally dumped me saying I was too high risk and left me without any help in finding a new psychiatrist who would accept me. I was extremely vulnerable and have never felt so hurt and so alone as it seemed like she just dusted me off like I was a piece of rubbish. I now have major trust issues and my mental health has deteriorated because of this.

Dr Sugars has been the most encouraging and knowledgeable Psychiatrist I have been fortunate enough to have as a part of my treating team in many many years. After previously being traumatised by other Psychiatrists at NFC (forced treatments, ITO's etc.), I was terrified to go back there, but Dr Sugars made the entire process somewhat 'easier' by her kind, calming and understanding nature. She has never pushed me to tell of my past, but has waited ever so patiently for me to open up. She works closely with the rest of my treating team, and has always been available to me as needed. I have never made as much progress with a Psychiatrist as I have with Dr Sugars. Yes, she will call you on your 'stuff' but sometimes, that's what is needed. A gentle nudge in the right direction. Highly highly recommend!

I am a sex worker by profession, and sought Dr Sugars assistance with matters unrelated to my profession. Unfortunately Dr Sugars was not understanding of my work, and encouraged me to quit my job despite me assuring her this was not the issue. If you are a sex worker do not visit this psychiatrist – she is not a safe, understanding, non-judgemental person to talk to.

Dr Sugars absolutely gets to the source of the issues and unwraps things exceptionally well. Lets you talk and download and is a great listener. Kate is also excellent in guiding you to make your decisions to go forward.
