At first, I was apprehensive and unsure. My pain was off the charts and Dr Cayen and Metaxia came go my rescue to get me in for the hip replacement I so badly needed. Covid was calming down and Metaxia ( so kind and helpful ) found a spot to complete the procedure. All the staff and associates and support were indeed fabulous. They were all there for me and with me throughout. A wonderful easy experience. I was told you will be on a walker for 2 weeks and then a cain for a week and I can acknowledge they were very close on the timing . I was almost fully recovered after 6 weeks with physiotherapy and exercise to strengthen afterwards, The pain was gone right away and I was out of hospital same day. Truly miraculous and no bones sawed or injured. The Hana Table and Dr. Cayen's knowledge and staff are absolutely wonderful. I am pain free and getting stronger!
Thankyou all

I had both knee replacements by Dr Cayne 6 months apart in 2020. After my second knee replacement, with the assistance of a walker I left the hospital the same day as my surgery. I will recommend Dr Cayen to as many of my friends as possible. I felt comfortable when I first met Dr Cayen. He answered all my questions and assured me at every follow up visit that my recovery was progressing well. My family are also happy that Dr Cayen performed the surgery as I recovered so fast it did not put a strain on them during this Covid Pandemic. I can not thank Dr Cayen enough - I fell great with no knee or burning arthritis pain. The staff at Humber River Hospital and Dr Cayen's Secretary Metaxia were all very professional and supportive. I wanted to shake Dr Cayen's hand or hug him to thank him, but for Covid restrictions. Thank you - Jim McDonnell

My hip replacement surgery, anterior approach, on December 14 2020 was a great success and went exactly as planned.
Recovery after surgery was easy and I feel confident that I can resume an active lifestyle after more than a year of inactivity due to rapidly worsening arthritis pain.
Thank you Dr. Cayen, your secretary Metaxia and all support staff at Humber River Hospital for an excellent and life changing job.
I highly recommend your services.

I had full ACL reconstruction, with a meniscus repair, in the spring, 2020. From my initial telephone conversation with Dr. Cayen's secretary, Metaxia, to my first appointment with Dr. Cayen, I knew I was in terrific hands. Dr. Cayen knew I was a candidate immediately from viewing my MRI images. After my injury and months of physiotherapy, I knew I had to have surgery and I was extremely comfortable and at ease knowing that Dr. Cayen was going to do my surgery. I had asked Metaxia if she may fit me in for a surgery date asap after my initial appointment, in which she did. Metaxia guided me every step of the way before surgery and even called me post-surgery to follow up! She is a gem and truly cares to help answer all of your questions.

On the day of the surgery, everything was perfect. Dr. Cayen met with me afterwards to let me know how it went. He definitely is knowledgeable and knows what he is doing, which makes everything very comforting. I've had several follow up appointments (even with covid) in which I never felt rushed, like I did with other doctors, and all my questions were answered. I am several months post surgery and doing great. Dr. Cayen told me from the beginning that physiotherapy would be the hardest and he was right. Despite the pain post surgery, physiotherapy is extremely important to get back to normal. I followed through with Dr. Cayens referral and they too are great. I am feeling so good and I am grateful and thankful to Dr. Cayen and his wonderful team at HRH for being caring, patient and experts at what you do. Thanks so so much!

I could not wrap my head around having a total hip replacement at 59 so I waited a couple years and had cortisone injections in my right hip from two other orthopedic surgeons to help with the pain. When I heard about the anterior hip replacement procedure from my osteopath I decided to find out more. Neither of the two doctors I had seen for cortisone shots performed this procedure so I looked at this website to find a doctor and had my GP refer me to Dr. Cayen.

I meet with Dr. Cayen this summer and following our meeting I was finally able to commit to surgery. I never felt rushed during our initial meeting and I was impressed with the fact that he expressed “concerns” about my x-rays when neither of the other two doctors had. Dr. Cayen wanted me to have a bone density test before going any further. Dr Cayen’s attention to detail and requirement for further diagnostic testing before scheduling a surgery date was probably the deciding factor leading me to commit to surgery.

The day before my surgery Dr. Cayen’s assistant Metaxia called me at home to see if I had any questions or concerns. In this day and age who does that. I was so impressed!!! My experience is that you almost never get to talk to a real person when you call a doctors office let alone have them initiate the call to see how you are doing. What a nice touch.

On the day of surgery October the 15, 2020 everything went perfectly. At least from my point of view. During the check in process the admin person took down my husbands cell number which was later used to send him text messages on my progress; when I was preped for surgery, when I was in surgery, when I was in recovery and when I was ready to be picked up.

After surgery I woke up right away in the operating room with some great music playing and lots of hustle bustle. I was alert and felt absolutely no pain. Prior to waking up I had been hooked up to the Game Ready (ice machine and compression system) which had been recommended. Best thing ever!!!

Dr. Cayen popped in to see me in recovery before I left the hospital that day and I was feeling pretty good at that point.

After two weeks I was walking without a walker or a cane. At the 5 week mark I was able to walk about 2 km unassisted and even golfed 9 holes but only pitch and putt as directed by my physio therapist.

Today ten weeks post surgery I am able to ride a stationary bike for 10 minutes and perform 40 minutes of Pilates. Both of which I have been doing on a daily basis for a few weeks. When the weather is nice and not too cold I walk at least 2 kms. I could probably walk longer but it is just too cold.

After spending far too long procrastinating this surgery I am so happy with the results and will be back in 2021 (I hope) to get my left hip done.

Thank you Dr. Cayen for being such a skilled surgery. I cannot tell you how happy I am with the results.

Dr. Barry Cayen, an orthopedic surgeon at Humber River Hospital, replaced my left hip in August. When I first met him months earlier in January I knew there and then that he would do a fine job for me. His manner not only put me at ease but gave me the sense that, to speak colloquially, he knew what he was doing. Following our first meeting I communicated with his office by email many times and occasionally by telephone and his assistant was very good. She always responded in a way that was both informative and professional. When his office and my physician's office were communicating, staff at my physician's office told me how impressed they were by the quick response they received from Dr. Cayen's office. On the day of the surgery, everything went smoothly and as planned . Since then my recovery has been complete and I can tell no difference between my left leg, the one operated on, and my right leg. It's now four months since the surgery and I have felt 100% for quite some time. Patients referred to Dr.Cayen should feel fortunate and know that he will take good care of them.

Thank you Dr. Cayen, Metaxia and all of the staff at HRH. They are all friendly, very approachable and most important, always on time! I got my new knee on Nov. 5, 2020 – went home (walking) same day thanks to SKiP- Same Day Knee Replacement Program. Amazingly, I’ve had no pain, didn’t need anything stronger than Tylenol and was driving 4 weeks later. Now 6 weeks since the operation, I have a clean bill of health with no more checkups required. I’m so grateful to everyone especially Dr. Cayen and, of course, ROSA the robot!

I had a hip replacement on Sept 18, 2020. All went as exactly as planned and I came home that same day. Recovery was easy and I experienced very little pain.
Dealing with Dr Cayen and his assistant, Metaxia, was a pleasure from start to finish.
Thanks for doing an excellent job and for restoring my mobility.

Had a hip replacement in August 2020. Dr. Cayen was excellent in every way; pre-op screening, the surgery itself and follow-up. There were some delays on the day of the surgery because of extra cleansing and disinfecting in the various rooms due to the Coronavirus, and for this I was very pleased, and felt safe. The surgery went very smoothly and I was able to be discharged the same day. My recovery has been wonderfully quick, and I credit Dr Cayen's skill for this. Credit also to his administrative assistant Metaxia for her help before and after surgery. I was also very pleased with the physiotherapy department at Humber River Hospital. Excellent experience all round.
