I was a patient of Dr. Metroka's over 30 years. Then one day when I showed up for an appointment his office was closed. The doorman of the Central Park West office new nothing of his whereabouts, but told me all his patients where showing up and were upset that he disappeared!
There was no way to contact him. I had no other doctor and was out of meds. I scrambled to find another doctor.
I sent a letter to see if there would be some forwarding address or response. I got none.
I did everything I could to find him.
Months later I was going through my phone book and decided just to call the number one more time and his assistant picked up the phone. I asked what had happened and was told there was some sort of rent dispute. I argued with the assistant and said they had a computer and a doctor's records could not be withheld. I asked why patients were never contacted by any one and got no answer. THEN, I asked if the office had gotten my letter urgently requesting a reply and was told they had received the letter weeks ago, but hadn't responded or called me. That was insult to injury for me.
I told the assistant that he was lying and there was something fishy in his responses and I didn't believe there was any "rent dispute", but said it seemed Dr. Metroka was hiding some illness or personal problem causing an abrupt cessation of his medical practice.
I said they were the most unprofessional operation with whom I had ever dealt and that they had treated their loyal patients with disrespect and left them all in the lurch for medical care and medications.
This happened quite a while ago, but I just realized I should write this and let people know about it. I never received a call from Dr. Metroka after seeing him for over 30 years and felt we were friends at that point.
I hope he's okay now and whatever happened is straightened out. But my trust was severely damaged and I would never return under any circumstances.

He is a very good doctor when you are able to see him. He's a nice man. But, he may keep you waiting for a long time. Also, he recently left his current office and left absolutely no contact information. Even the receptionist there had no idea how to contact him or where he moved to. He can be extremely elusive.

A good doctor, but the waiting time can sometimes be brutal - not sure if it's because he's a little slower now that he's older, or is it the staff's fault?

The doctor disappeared on me. Office closed, no forwarding information. As a person, I liked him. As a professional; he wasn't!

He has been my doctor for over 13 years, and he is the best I have ever used. He is one of the few that has late evening hours. He always takes time to talk about what's going on in my life and is very competent. He is very caring and has taken extra time for me when needed. If you need a same day appointment, it is always easy to get. My friends all have the same opinion of him, they like him.

I stopped using Dr. Metroka a few years ago. He's very knowledgable, but knows nothing about running an office. He did EVERYTHING by himself, including blood pressure, taking weight, drawing blood, etc. - instead of the glorified (and not very efficient) assistant John (don't know if he's still there), he should have a medical assistant do the standard procedures and not keep patients waiting forever in the waiting room. The final straw was when I waited over 2 hours and still hadn't seen him - I finally just left - for good. As the other reviewer mentioned, I never saw him on time - average wait was about 30-45 minutes. Unless the office procedures have drastically improved and you have hours to spare, seek out another Dr.!

The doctor is frequently late to the office and seems a bit uncaring. He wouldn't take my blood pressure when requested, said "It's been a long day," and dismissed me.
