Dr. Saltz has absolutely no bedside manners - an absolute disregard for a patient's mental well-being, concerns, interests, or questions. Even when his regimen was working well, he told us it was pretty much hopeless and advised us against seeking medical care elsewhere. I wish I hadn't listened to him. As a physician in training now, I've surveyed oncology departments at other world class institutions, where physicians actually know how to speak to distressed patients and offer hope, even if realistic and tempered.

Save yourself the additional heartbreak and grief that any interaction with this physician provides.

Using this doctor was a HUGE mistake. His bedside manner is horrible, but we were willing to put up with his terrible attitude thinking we would be getting the best possible care being that he is head of Gastrointestinal Oncology department in Sloan Kettering. Nothing could be farther from the truth! This man, I can't even call him a doctor, was cold and abrupt, uncaring and just plain mean. If you are considering using this doctor please beware and save yourself a lot of pain and heartache, and maybe even your life.

Was not compassionate; was not interested in life extension; disobeyed directives; only interest was giving chemo.
