After having limped for many years I began investigating and interviewing foot/ankle doctors. I had appointments with four doctors in Phoenix and two in Los Angeles. I chose Dr Mitchell for his experience and professionalism. I am now 18 months out on a TAR-total ankle replacement that Dr Mitchell performed and doing well. I hike almost every day over rough terrain, just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and have been extremely happy with my results. Dr Mitchell has changed my life for the better and helped me to walk pain and limp free for the first time in many years. All orthopedic surgeries are risky, require patience and especially require diligence in working through the recovery. Good Luck!

Removed os trigonum from my daughter, which was causing her pain over the course of several years. She and I are extremely thankful, and her pain is gone.

I think I’ve been to almost every ankle surgeon in the Phoenix metro area. It is my hope that my experiences will assist you in finding an outstanding foot/ankle surgeon. I have visited so many, in hopes of finding "the one" who could resolve my unusual situation.
In 2015, I had ankle fusion surgery at Mayo Clinic - which was, unfortunately, not successful. Based on the level of arrogance and dismissiveness to my questions following surgery, I was beyond disappointed. I was not about to allow any surgeon in that department to operate on me again!
For years after the surgery, I walked on the side of one foot and wore a brace daily. My daughter begged me to have revision surgery. A prominent neck & spine doctor in Scottsdale encouraged me to get the foot corrected as soon as possible. This was a structural issue that required surgery. But who was I going to trust, after having such a terrible experience ?
The spine doctor strongly recommended Dr. Peter Mitchell. He said Dr. Mitchell was very extremely smart and creative, in addition to being responsive to a patient’s questions and needs. Just what I needed. A high-level professional (and a very nice human being) who hadn't forgotten the word CARE in healthcare.
I went to see Dr. Mitchell and immediately knew that this was the surgeon for me. He knew exactly what needed to be done ... did not hesitate for one second to take on a patient who had bad results from a previous surgery ... kept an open communication between us at all times ... and genuinely seemed anxious to get my foot corrected, once and for all.
This past March, Dr. Mitchell performed surgery on my foot (ankle fusion revision plus additional surgery) and now I am walking correctly! This was a very complicated procedure (seven incisions, lots of hardware, removing old hardware, etc) and he took care of it with total confidence, knowledge and professionalism. I have issues with reactions to pain medications and he was very willing to help me with that concern. No concern of mine seemed like a problem for him. He just moved the entire process forward and changed my life completely.
I can't tell you how many (dozen) foot doctors I have seen since 2009. Some recommended stem cell and regenerative shots that were expensive and never going to solve the problem. Some recommended braces and therapies (tens machines, special shoes, physical therapy, shots, etc) that helped - but never fixed anything. One wanted to sell me his new book. That wasn't going to fix my foot.
The only person who I felt KNEW what needed to be done for me and took on the job like a true professional ankle surgeon was Dr. Peter Mitchell. From the minute I met him, I trusted him.
Dr. Mitchell has been a consultant to the San Francisco Ballet, Ballet Arizona, the AZ Diamondbacks and the AZ Cardinals. He is also on the ASU sports medicine advisory team. For several years, he has been named a "Top Doc" in Phoenix Magazine. Now I understand why.
I recommend Dr. Peter Mitchell, with total confidence, to take care of any foot problems you may have. There is no better foot/ankle surgeon in town.

He is the best. He performed my Achilles tendon surgery and used the latest techniques while delivering great services throughout. Dr. Mitchell is just the right amount of funny which is helpful during the dark days of recovery. If you need a smart, talented and quick witted surgeon/doctor - look no further. Dr. Mitchell is terrific.

If your appointment is at 10:00 AM, show up at 11:00 AM and you'll still wait for thirty minutes.
