It is God's grace that I was so lucky to be referred to Dr. John Yee after I was
diagnosed with lung cancer at Vancouver General Hospital, he saved my life
and I believe Dr. Yee is the most admirable and trustworthy doctor that I’ve
ever seen and he is not only skilled in lung cancer and lung transplantation,
but also very patient, kind, and full of love for the patients. Moreover he has a
very professional and caring team, his secretary Mrs. Elizabeth was also
friendly and helpful during the process.
I remember Dr. Yee and I first met on December 3rd 2021, and he patiently
introduced the diagnosis results of my chest CT and surgical treatment plan,
which included the Microcoil's new technologies he invented. He also patiently
answered all of my questions I had thoroughly in details and I fully believed
that Doctor Yee is a very professional and responsible doctor who deserves
my complete trust and he gave me confidence to face my diagnosis.
On February 7th, 2022, Dr. Yee did Wedge Resection Surgery for me. On this
day, he had two continuous operations. Although he was very tired, Dr. Yee
came to the ward 12A in the evening to ask how I am doing and informed me
that the surgery was very successful. His kindness and responsibility made
me very moved and unforgettable, and I believe that he is full of kindness,
understanding and care for all patients, he makes all patients feel love and
peace.
My family and I are forever grateful to Dr. Yee and his team. May the lord bless you!

Dr Yee saved my 89 yr old Mother’s life! We were blessed to have him be a part of the team of Nurses, Doctors, technicians and health experts at VGH. He truly has gifts of teaching, knowledge, kindness, compassion and healing! My Mom has COPD and had an infection that was trying to take her life. Dr Yee offered to do surgery and at her age this does not always happen. Again, a blessing. My Mom had full confidence in him and the team. She will be turning 90 in May. Thank you Dr Yee and the team who saved my Mother’s life and our family will be forever grateful.

Dr John Yee is absolutely an amazing doctor/surgeon with a big heart!

We were so lucky to be referred to Dr Yee when my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. He patiently explained the situation in details and provided us with clear solutions which made perfect sense to us. He was also able to expedite the surgery which effectively reduced the risk of further spread of the cancer to other organs.

Dr Yee came to see my mom every day after her surgery and assured her how smoothly and well the surgery went, which encouraged her in working hard to resume herself. My mom was out of the hospital in less than a week and she is recovering well and expected to live a normal life.

Words just can not express our gratitude to Dr Yee as he simply saved my mom’s life.

Dr Yee also has a very professional and caring team, just like himself. Elizabeth and Alexia were so kind and helpful during the process and took the extra steps to make things work. The nurses in the post surgery unit were also super sweet and helpful.

We were so blessed to have Dr Yee and his team go through this journey with us. Thank you from the bottom of our heart!

I was referred to Dr Yee when I was diagnosed with a rare thymic cancer. Dr Yee was kind and encouraging. He explained in details how this tumor made surgery risky and that I would need treatments first to shrink it. My parents flew from China to support me, Dr. Yee told me that he would be here if I needed him to talk to my parents anytime.

After 3 months of chemo and radiation, Dr Yee and Dr Choi did the surgery. It was a 4+ hours long sternotomy operation. The tumor was perfectly removed and the lab report showed that all the edges were clean.

I stayed at T12A for 5 days post surgery and Dr. Yee checked on me every day. The nurses there were like angels, I was taken very good care of :)

It has been 1 month since the surgery, I’m recovering well and almost back to normal life. My scar is already fading thanks to Dr Yee’s precise stitches!

There are not enough words to express how thankful I am to Dr. Yee, Dr. Choi, Elizabeth, and all the nurses and physiotherapists at T12A! You helped me to conquer this tough journey and saved my life.

Dr. Yee conducted the lung wedge resection surgery for me last month using the microcoil technique, and removed a lung nodule which turned out to be an early stage cancer. When the nodule was first detected by CT screening last year, being a non-smoker throughout my life, I was confused, very worried, and anxious about what I will end up with. I was so blessed that I had Dr. Yee as my thoracic surgeon, who is the most admirable and trustworthy doctor that I’ve ever met. Not only because he is one of the best in his specialty, but also the way he treats his patient is full of kindness, understanding, caring, he makes his patient feel at ease immediately. After meeting with Dr. Yee for the initial consultation, I was very assured with no more fear.
It’s been 6 weeks since the surgery was done, and I have been recovering very well. I will always be grateful to Dr. Yee and his team, from Elizabeth to all the nurses, for what you’ve done to save other’s life! You’ve inspired me in so many ways…

Dr John Yee and Dr James Choi saved my husband’s life in October 26, 2021 at VGH for Esophageal Cancer Surgery. After the surgery, they explained to me fully about Joe’s health condition.

They are very professional, compassionate, caring surgeons. They are the best thoracic surgeons in Vancouver.

They encourage, support and comfort us. We really appreciate it so much. They came to see us almost every day.

They explained and answered all our questions thoroughly and patiently.

Thank you very very much to their Secretary, Elizabeth, who is very professional and caring to all their patients.

Also, thank you so much to all the staff at T12A floor, especially Graham, Lori, Lynn, Gail, Robert Wright, and …..

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

From Joe & Susana

Dr. Yee saved my life. When I found out I had lung cancer, my family called everybody they knew in Vancouver who worked in healthcare. Whether they were nurses or doctors or other hospital workers, only one name came up, Dr. Yee's.

I was terrified about my appointment as I was told that I had a large tumor that was in a very bad location by both my family doctor and my oncologist. I did not know what to expect. I had a million questions.

My appointment came a few days later. Maybe this was because my cancer was especially bad? My mind was going into so many crazy directions, I could not sleep.

All this changed when I saw Dr. Yee. God must have listened to my prayers. Dr. Yee met me in person when all my other doctors only used the telephone because of Covid. He spent an hour with me and my daughters. He was the kindest and most humble person you could possibly imagine. He answered every single one of my questions and explained every step of treatment. He was so patient with us even though I could tell that other people were trying to talk to him. I felt that nothing else mattered to him except to help me. I felt my worry and fear lifting off my shoulders.

On the day of my surgery, he met me before and stayed with me right until the moment I was put asleep. The next thing I remember was seeing him when I woke up and him telling me that the surgery was done. I stayed almost a week on the 12th floor. The nurses were fantastic. You could tell that they were very experienced. Dr. Yee saw me very single day, even on Saturday and Sunday. Everyone was busy but they always took time to smile and ask me how they could help me. How amazing is that!

It's little more than a month after surgery, but I feel great and am already getting back at work and looking forward to Christmas. My oncologist called me to say that I am cancer-free and do not need anything else besides regular checkups. No chemo!

I am so grateful for Dr. Yee and his team at VGH. Thank you all for giving me my life back. This will be my best Christmas ever.

PS. Dr. Yee exceeded all my expectations. I think that the person that posted the "shocking" review below cannot be a real patient and never met Dr. Yee. Kind and caring are what describe Dr. Yee and his staff. What I experienced restored my faith in the medical system and matches all of Dr.Yee's other amazing reviews.

Not only is Dr. Yee a wonderful surgeon and human being as his ratings confirm but his research study has saved my life. If I had not volunteered for his lung screening trial with Dr. Stephen Lam four years ago I would never have known I had lung cancer until It was well past a cure. I will be forever grateful for his saving my life. Leslie Lennox
