Surgery was completed as planned. After surgery he got a plane for one of his many speaking tours. His group of residence either have no authority or no ability to provide after care. The care at the hospital was horrible. The orders changed depending on the doctor that day. We were discharged with the wrong papers and no one cared. It was for a female and the patient was a male. Dr. Wexner saw us twice after surgery while in the hospital for over 2 weeks and will not see us again. Even for final post op surgery follow up. He's too busy. Our last conversation with one of his residence was by a TEXT. They may think surgery is most important, but the after care and ability to ask questions and receive answers is critical to the patient and family. We had to wait over a month to get the oncology report and we went in for colon cancer surgery!!! I would not recommend anyone to him and certainly not to the hospital. No one seems to care what happens after they walk out of your room.

My son has Crohn's disease and developed a horseshoe perianal fistula requiring multiple surgeries. He has been a patient of Dr. Wexner's for almost three years and throughout, Dr. Wexner and his team of Fellows and Residents have provided my son excellent surgical and post operative care. And the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida is the best hospital that my son or I have ever been to. The nurses and staff throughout the hospital are phenomenal, well educated, caring and professional. While Dr, Wexner may not spend as much time bedside as some of the other reviewers expected, we realize that he is THE surgeon in the United States in colorectal surgery and has patients from all over the world coming to see him. His daily schedule is very demanding and in order to take care of all of the patients who are in his care, he does have to limit his time with each patient. But if we ever have needed more information, the Residents and Fellows have always been available to answer our questions. We are extremely fortunate to be able to go to Dr. Wexner and to the Cleveland Clinic.

I had a similar experience as the person from April 2015. I saw another Dr. because he was not available. I was given a topical cream and sent home with no instructions. I called back to the office to get some instruction and was told topically for 2 weeks. After suffering for 2 months using the cream, taking 3 sitz baths a day, using stool softner, fiber diet, etc. nothing worked so I decided I wanted to get a surgical consult and he was listed as the "best". Was told by his staff he would NOT see me unless I used fleet the morning of the appointment. I explained I had a VERY painful fissure. I did the fleet and was in extreme pain the 45 minutes I sat in the waiting room. Once I was in the exam room I sat again for 45 minutes. When he came in, he was very short and said my colleagues notes say you have a fissure. He asked if I was using the cream, I said yes for 2 weeks. He asked about fiber and I said no, I am on a low fiber diet because the pain was so extreme. He told me he would not examine me because I was in so much pain. I was outraged that I did the Fleet and he didn't even give me an exam. He told me to drink alot of water, eat fiber, gave me psyllium husk and to see him again in one month. I also received a letter a week later saying that since I did not follow the previous doctors instructions that I would need to see him in 2 months. I was so outraged that I was being talked down to like a 2 year old. When I did manage to ask him about surgery as an option down the line, he pushed botox and down played surgery because it could cause incontinence. I will not go back to him! He is suppose to be the best and he can't even guarantee a simple surgery to repair an anal fissure. Glad he's not a heart surgeon!

I am very thankful to Dr Steven Wexner and his whole team including his office staff and to the great group of doctors that are training underneath him. I just recently had two surgeries by Dr. Wexner due to Crohns Disease. Dr. Wexner was very professional and straight to the point. I was very confident that i would have the best chance of a successful outcome because of Dr. Wexner. The first surgery was a complicated nine hour surgery and the second surgery was three hours with complications. The care i received at the Cleveland Clinic between Dr Wexner, his team of doctors and the nurses were top notch. Steve M.

Dr. Wexner is the most arrogant physician I have ever met. My surgical outcome was extremely poor. I wish I had selected a different surgeon. Cleveland Clinic Florida is not the same institution as "the" Cleveland Clinic. Better care may be found at UM.

I was suffering from what I thought was a case of hemorrhoids and was dealing with an incredibly painful situation that was interfering with my ability to function. I tried to see Dr. Wexner but he had no room to see me in a timely manner. So pending my appointment with him, I was directed to one of his colleagues. This doctor diagnosed me correctly with an anal fissure and prescribed a topical muscle relaxant and use of a Metamucil-like anti constipation supplement. He told me that if the therapy did not work, surgery would be a 100 percent cure or there was the possibility of the use of Botox. The therapy did not work. I did some research and found out that there was a risk of incontinence from the surgery -- This is because the surgery involves cutting an anal muscle that involuntarily controls defecation. When it came time to see Dr. Wexner, he was very obnoxious during the visit including the examination. He was annoyed that I had seen him even instead of the stand in doctor. He recommended Botox injection or ultimately surgery -- but was downplayed surgery as a good option because there was a risk of incontinence. About a week later, I received a letter from Dr. Wexner telling me that the visit with him essentially was a stand in for the other physician who was unavailable -- even though this was not the case. He also wrote that he could not see me going forward.

This ended up being a blessing in disguise. I found a colorectal surgeon at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York who has pioneered a procedure to cure anal fissures without any risk of incontinence. It involves injecting a cortisone like substance into the fissure. I had the procedure in January 2014 and it solved the problem almost immediately. I am so indebted to that physician.

As to Dr. Wexner, although he is well known and has an impressive resume, his performance was far from acceptable. I would avoid this physician at all costs.

Dr Wexner is a consummate professional with a desire to heal, teach, and continue to expand his knowledge (he is intelligent already). It's understandable people have differences with they way they feel about doctors because of their own fears if the unknown; medically speaking. From first hand experience Dr Wexner is kind, compassionate and understanding however, he shows that professional face and that's what some don't understand. He has a job to do, with many patients around the world and he too travels around the world to do what he loves (opinion ) teach and heal. Our son was going to die and the good Lord brought us to Dr Wexner and he was to the point in telling is what to expect and what he would do; no more, no less. He saved our sons life and we can never repay him for that. If your looking for a tv doctor do not go to Dr Wexner (even though he is quite handsome), if you are looking for knowledge, experience, and over all tenacity to heal then he is your guy. While I stayed 6 weeks with our son in the hospital I heard and talked with families personally who they or loved ones were healed/saved by the doc. So, it's your choice and good luck to you either way .

Before I went to see Dr. Wexner, I understood that his bedside manner was rather brusque. Many surgeons are that way. But his skills are exceptional. He knows what he is doing, and he cares about ensuring that patients have the best outcomes possible. I had had four previous colon surgeries, one of which nearly cost me my life, and the doc who performed that surgery was very personable. He was mediocre, but he talked a good game. Give me a doc like Wexner any day. He does not mince words, he is there to get you the best results possible, and he is there to teach. I wish the doc with all the charm who performed the earlier surgery had spent some time under Dr. Wexner's tutelage. If you want to be treated with kid gloves, go elsewhere. If you want the best surgeon, Wexner is your man. Do your homework, come prepared with your questions, and don't take things personally. He's there to do a job, not be your pal. You won't be sorry.
