I had a dental emergency between christmas and new year. I had cracked a tooth and quickly dveveloped an infection which I knew would need antibiotics and so I went to the emergnency department there while I was calling around to find an available dentist.. I was seen by an attending physician in emerg who examined me and got a bit of my medical background. He said he'd also try to arrange an appointment for me and I went back to the waiting area. A little while later I was approached by a staff physiotherapist who said the doctor noticed I was walking a bit funny and asked if she could examine me further. I do have a bit of a gate due to mild scoliosis and it did often cause me some discomfort so we went went for a walk and I got a nice summary of what else to expect as I age. She also explained how to choose and walk with a cane. Which now a year later I do have to use. Also because I described this walking discomfort as causing some lower abdominal pain, I was later visited by an ultrasound tech for a bladder testing. All I can say is, this is the best continuum of care I have ever experienced at any emerg. department I have ever visited as an adult in the last 50 years.

on wednes june 4, i called 911 for ambulance. i had been vomiting for 3 days, severe chest pain, dehydrated, cdnt keep anthing down, massive head and back neck pain, ribs aching, dizzy and double vision. the paramedics were concerned with high fever, put a pill under tongue to settle my stomach. took me to st.joes and said i wd be hooked up to a drip and wd have xrays done. when theu checked me in they wheeled me to room with 20+ people, all laffing, eating, texting, reading, shaking doctors hands etc. it was 11:45 am and i stayed until 2:00, stumbled up to reception and she said u r #19 on the list. i thought the worst cases were seen first. i told her i was going to be sick again and had to go home. before this, i asked if i cd get a pill for vomitting and she said no cant do that, i ended up stumbling through corridor to sit outside to get a taxi. i cd not belive with all the pain i was in, cd hardly walk let alone talk. the hospital called me at 5:45 pm and said we're ready for u. i said i am at home feeling worse and cdnt possibly return. i will talk with my own doctor today. i am 75 years old, female. i wd rather stay home and die than go back to st.joes. i also had another incident when my doctor called 911 from his office. once at hospital i was told by reception 1st come 1st serve. i nearly died. i waited for a few hours and left. sick as a dog. wth happened to most serious cases first? and when yr brought in by ambulance?

The only hospital I've been in that's worse than St Joe's was a public hospital in the Dominican Republic where I did a tiny bit of volunteer work. My father has been admitted to St Joes twice in the last two months: 16-hour emergency room waits, the hospital lost a $1,000 leg brace that we've been arguing to get reimbursement for, two weeks on a ward with about three doctors' visits and no real treatment. I wouldn't send an unconscious person to die here in the palliative ward. It would also be nice to have medical staff who can speak English.

My mother developed multiple large stage 4 bedsores after only a week in this disgusting dirty so called hospital. These people don't know what they are doing. Once the bedsores were so bad, the doctors said my mother should just give up and pass away!! My mother also contracted MRSV bacteria which is for life from the filth and untrained people at this nightmare hell hole!!

St Joseph’s Hospital is overall ok . Just needs to rebuild very old and outdated . A few months ago I walked into Emergency myself to ask for help with Homicidal thoughts .. I was escorted to the Mental Heath Lockup . After consultation with a Psychiatrist whom was nice , I was released home only after one hour .( leaving me perplexed ., what did I miss))Two weeks later I had a follow up only to have the worse experience with a Psychiatrist named Mrs Pinto , I did not feel supported actually she was asserting her authority , she held up her fingers in front of me and demanded I tell her what she wanted on the first initial visit with her .( I want names, places, address etc ) wow !! I’ll never reach out for Mental Health crises again at St Joseph’s Hospital )( Feeling unsupported )

Long wait in Emerg as expected, but what is not expected is how freezing it is in here. Finally asked a nurse for a blanket. Got a scowl as though I was inconveniencing her. Later had to follow up with her to which she replied there are no blankets. Absurd the hospital does not have blankets but worse she didn’t have the courtesy to let me know. And when I asked again, again that scowl. Forgive me for asking you to work at your work.

Watch out for Asian psychiatrist working in the crisis department. I went there couple of years ago with anxiety issues, wanted them to give me something to calm me down, instead I was locked in their crisis department unable to leave because they lock the door. In addition after talking to social worker who was totally nor right for the job, very fake. Then I went to the room to speak with the doctor, and he traumatized me with intimidating me that I want to cut my veins. These people are sick. Be careful. That was over 5 yrs ago.

If there was a 0 star I would choose. Do not take your transgender kid to Dr Rotberg, psychiatrist, St Joseph Hospital Toronto. Unless you want him to prescribe hormones to your young teen. He will tell you that without hormones your kid will kill themselves. Without even looking at other mental health issues, like anxiety and autism. Be careful. Read When Kids Say They’re Trans by Sasha Ayad, Lisa Marchiano before deciding and listen to their podcast, Gender: A wider lense. You want to know every perspective before you fail your kid and change them permantently for life then to have them turn around and sue you and the drs for letting them do something so permanent to their bodies as such a young age. Dr rotberg is of the extreme activists type of thinking. Be careful.
