How to Easily Increase Your Cardio Fitness This Summer

It’s not hard to do. Put in the time and be consistent, and you’ll see results.

Increasing your fitness can feel like a daunting project. It’s relatively easy if you take things step by step, however (no pun intended).

Don’t expect immediate results- increasing your cardiovascular capacity takes time, especially if your engine is already able to perform pretty well.

If you haven’t been active, you may find that jogging for even just 10 minutes a day, a few times a week, becomes a lot easier in just under a month.

The key at any level of fitness is to vary your intensity in order to increase your capacity.

So, if you’re going for 25 minutes, put some sprints in here and there. Go hard for 30 seconds.

Adding in high intensity intervals will increase your metabolism, and help you build muscle.

And as with any physical training, it’s uber important to be consistent. You won’t get anywhere by doing one workout a week, or hitting the trails once, sometime in July. Set aside a regular workout time, and stick to it in your daily schedule.

Follow a trainer or a recommended training schedule available online or through a training device, and track your progress.  Plan what you’ll do ahead of starting, and write your workouts down.

Above all, remember to get your rest. If you’re working out but fatigued, you’ll reap some benefits but not all, and you could actually cause damage by injuring yourself or leading yourself to burnout. Get to bed on time. If you’re too tired, skip a workout and rest up.

Start again as soon as you can, trying to keep your workouts to a minimum of 3 times a week.
