Having a healthy immune system is key. Not only can a solid system help you avoid getting sick, it enables you to face the fire and get well, if and when you do.

A balanced diet full of the vitamins and minerals you need is obviously at the top of the list. When it comes to specific foods that can help to boost your immune system certain items go farther than others.

Citrus fruits like oranges and lemons as they are great sources of vitamin C. It is thought that vitamin C helps to increase your production of white blood cells, which can give you a lift.

Garlic is also a super-immune booster. It has not been conclusively clinically proven, but experts believe that this root can improve your immunity. This is because garlic contains allicin which is a potent antibiotic. It is antibacterial, antifugal and antiseptic, and as such it may help your body fight off infections.

Another useful root is ginger. It has been found to possibly reduce inflammation in the body, and reduce the pain of a sore throat.

Broccoli may not be something you think of when searching for sources of vitamin C, but it is rife with vitamins, including vitamins A, C and E. As such, this vegetable can help you stay in top form.
