Dr Procaccino saved my life in 1999. he was truthful before and after the the surgery which was for crohns. Words cannot explain how he prolonged my life and how he saved my family by giving me the chance to live and take care of my family. At the time of my surgery my childern were 12, 11 and twins 7. If it wasn't for Dr Procaccino my children would have a tough time , hence they all completed college and are all doing well today GOD BLESS Dr Procaccino

A great surgeon, I can assume, if the surgery goes well. A poor, uncompassionate individual when it doesn't. Pre-Surgery, he presented as a hero. Post-Surgeries, with complications, he assumed no accountability, nor did he properly document the files perhaps to cover his "stellar reputation". If there were no surgeons left to go to, I will never go to him again.

Does not assume responsibility. File documentation- which always said patient tolerated procedure- does not reflect what really happened. I had 3+ surgeries with this man. Although a good surgeon, many complications, and no accountability.

although dr. Procaccino is experienced with 19 years of service in this area, he covers up for mistakes he makes in surgery, by verbally saying that what happened was very unlikely, or the cat scan was wrong. He will never admit he made an error. He is arrogant and not a good communicator of the real facts ...He is a good surgeon, but based on post operative care from the office staff and lack of communication with him, he cannot be recommended to anyone.

Dr. John Procaccino treated my mother for colo-rectal cancer. When she was initially diagnosed,in 1996, we knew she would have to have a colostomy because the tumor was located in the anus. My Mother, Evelyn M. DiDio was terrified. Dr. Procaccino, was the epitome of professionalism and sheer human kindness; he took time to assuage her fears and explained everything in a clear and concise manner. He put my Mother at ease and my entire family trusted him implicitly. He did an excellent job on the surgery; there were no complications and my Mother made a full and complete recovery. In 2001, five years after her initial diagnosis the colon cancer reoccurred. Dr. Procaccino again performed surgery purely as a palliative measure. And once again, he was extremely caring, professional and always made himself available. He is one of the most knowledgeable doctors and most gifted surgeons I have ever had the privilege and the pleasure to meet. Dr. Procaccino is also a down-to-earth and compassio

Biography

John Procaccino, MD, is the director of North Shore University Hospital’s division of colon and rectal surgery. He completed his residency at North Shore University Hospital and his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Procaccino has continuously been named one of the nation’s top doctors and has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for more than twenty years. Dr. Procaccino treats a spectrum of conditions, from minor anal rectal issues to major intrabdominal conditions. Among these conditions are colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis), hemorrhoids and diverticulitis. He performs both laparoscopic and open surgery. Dr. Procaccino is excited about minimally invasive innovations in surgery, and new, robust clinical pathways that enable a patient to spend less time in the hospital after major surgeries. Seventy percent of his patients with major bowel resections can go home within 2-3 days, thanks to state-of-the-art enhanced recovery protocols. Taking a multidisciplinary approach to colorectal care, Dr. Procaccino leans on his team of radiologists, pathologists, oncologists and more to treat and assess each patient’s condition with an individualized strategy. And when he creates a care plan for each patient, he takes the time to ensure they understand and retain crucial information, using easy-to-grasp diagrams and analogies to help. “It’s my goal to make sure each patient understands the problem, the plan and the approach,” he says. “And that they know our team is with them every step of the way.” From the moment a patient calls his office, Dr. Procaccino makes sure their time and energy are respected. As a rule, a human always answers the phone. “From the minute an encounter takes place, we want a patient to feel as though we’re putting arms around them and helping them through what may be very difficult for them.” Dr. Procaccino takes deep pride in his humanistic approach to clinical care. “If you treat someone with sincerity, they can sense it immediately,” he says. For this reason, Dr. Procaccino treats every patient like family, and stops at nothing to ensure they feel comfortable and confident under his care at every step of their journey together.
