Biography
Dr. Plucknett performs Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy and dedicates her Wayne, New Jersey-based practice to helping women and men find relief from hormonal imbalances such as menopause, andropause (the male menopause), adrenal fatigue and thyroid disorders, using a three-tiered approach to wellness, combining customized nutrition and fitness regimens with bioidentical hormone therapy. Dr. Plucknett believes that proper diet, regular exercise and balanced hormones are the cornerstones of longevity. Dr. Plucknett made the decision to transition into anti-aging and preventive medicine, because she wanted the opportunity to spend more time with each patient, in order to address their health and wellness needs from a pre-emptive perspective. As a bioidentical hormones expert, Dr. Plucknett specializes in treating the underlying causes of symptoms oftentimes associated with aging, such as hot flashes, night sweats, low libido, weight gain, fatigue, mood swings and irritability. Dr. Barbara Plucknett received her undergraduate degree from Temple University in 1987 and completed her Medical Doctorate at Pennsylvania State University in 1991. Before practicing medicine, Dr. Plucknett fulfilled her residency of Obstetrics/Gynecology at the Medical Center of Delaware in 1995, followed by fellowships at Greater Baltimore Medical Center and the University of Maryland Medical System. Dr. Plucknett is currently an active member of the fellowship for Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine (FAAFM), and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

In short, if you are the slightest bit unhappy or not confident in the level of care from Dr. Plucknett and her staff, I urge you to seek a second opinion like I did. If I hadn't I would have had an unnecessary D&C (a surgical procedure in the hospital under general anesthesia to remove tissue from the uterus).
If you care to read the long background: I was told that I had to make an appointment (more money for them) to discuss my ultrasound results. I pressed and asked why couldn't they tell me the results over the phone, epically since their ultrasound technician told me TWICE that she did not see any polyps in my uterus. After going back forth with the very rude office staff, Dr. Plucknett answered the phone and was even more rude than her staff. She explained that they schedule follow-up ultrasound appointments with all of their patients despite the results (again, more money in her pocket) but that I did have a polyp. Confused, I said what does this mean? Her response, "Well don't you think that's why we make you come in?" Her website preaches compassionate care and it is the furthest thing from that. I went in for the follow-up appointment with the NP, Amanda, who I will say I had never had an issue with before. In fact, I preferred seeing her over Dr. Plucknett because she actually spends time with her patients. In the 7-minute long appointment, Amanda explained that I did have a polyp. I of course was confused since the technician (whether she was right or wrong in saying so) was SO confident she did not see any polyps. I asked where the polyp was and how big it was. She could not answer either question. She didn't bring the imaging in, just the report and said the next step would be to have a D&C to remove the polyp and send it to pathology to make sure it was benign. I asked about further imaging, especially since I was not having symptoms and she couldn't tell me adequate information about said polyp. She said they could do that, but there really is no point. I asked to see the report she was holding and she handed it to me. It read "Normal size uterus. Normal endometrial thickness, but possible polyp noted." Stunned, I said, "so wait a second... you want to operate on me for a POSSIBLE polyp???" She said yes, the next step will be the D&C. I said, I am getting a second opinion. On my way out, I asked the office staff for my medical records, including the imaging from the ultrasound. The Office Manager explained they didn't have the technology to provide me the imaging on a disc or USB, but she would see if they could photo copy them. It's 2022.
I had a wonderful appointment with a Dr. in Lehigh Valley who was astonished by my experience to date. Side note: she also could not believe Dr. Plucknett wanted to repeat my Pap every 3 months from an irregular, low grade Pap. (Again... more money!). She explained this goes against strict guidelines given by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. For the "possible polyp" she scheduled me for further testing and explained she would never suggest doing a D&C based on the report. I went for the Saline infusion sonohysterography and not only did I NOT need to make an appointment to discuss the results, but they were given to me at the time of the appointment. The results? I do not have a polyp. Nothing. Completely clear. No follow-up needed.
With all of this said, PLEASE consider a second opinion or care from an actual compassionate practice. Lehigh Valley Obstetrics and Gynecology were wonderful and they have multiple offices.
