Saw Dr. Pawluk at the urgent care centre. I was really nervous, and she calmed me down. As a female patient I felt very comfortable with her.

Great meeting Dr. Pawluk in the ER after I hurt my wrist. She got x-rays done really quickly and helped me find a physio therapist near my house.

When my wife was in hospital in Victoria at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Dr. Pawluk was her main doctor. My wife had spent over two months in hospital, and Dr. Pawluk was our favourite doctor during her stay. In the end, we decided that because my wife was very sick, that we would aim to get her home and control her symptoms. Dr. Pawluk asked for the "palative" doctor to come see my wife too. Dr. Pawluk was always kind, and took the time to chat with both of us and answer our questions. She even gave our granddaughter a call when she heard that she had some questions too!
Most of these website comments about Dr. Pawluk are very true, she is kind, compassionate, enthusiastic, and I wish her many years of a great career.

Dr. P. was my family Dr. for a little over a year.

I stuck with her because I have a medical phobia, it's been almost 2 decades since I've had a regular Dr. and I have serious, debilitating health issues that need to be addressed. Dr. P. is not intimidating in her manner...always friendly and polite.

While I appreciate the fact that I finally got a Dr. to take my chronic pain seriously (I've been getting the brush off from docs for for most of my life...Dr. P. referred me to a rheumatologist), I was disappointed in her performance on several occasions.

I am on disability for CPTSD, stemming largely from repeated rapes over a three year period. Dr. P. knew this. She was aware that I had severe anxiety surrounding pelvic exams/PAPs, and had not had one since my early 20s (I am 41).

I had blood in my urine and required a cystoscopy (camera up the urethra). My anxiety about this procedure was very high, so I asked her if I could have a tranquilizer during the procedure. She told me that she wouldn't prescribe it because some urologists are particular about which meds they use during these procedures, but that she would arrange for the urologist to give me a tranquilizer.

When I got to the hospital and asked about it, however, they didn't know what I was talking about. Furthermore, they informed me that Dr. P. should have prescribed it. They said I could either cancel the procedure, go home, get a prescription from Dr. P. and reschedule, or do the procedure now.

At that point I had hardly slept for the couple of weeks leading up to that day, so I made the sleep-deprived judgement call that going through with the cystoscopy that day would be less traumatic than rescheduling and the resultant anxiety and insomnia I would have to re-live leading up to the appointment.

I had the procedure. Felt extremely violated. Won't go into detail on that front as it is very triggering to talk about.

For the next several weeks my mental health was a complete mess. It cost me a substantial amount of money, as I use cannabis (which is not covered and I pay for with my disabilty cheque) to treat my CPTSD and had to substantially increase my dosage to reduce the increased anxiety, depression. suicidal ideation, insomnia and self harming tendencies I experienced as a result of Dr. P's mishap.

More recently, I asked Dr. P. (via phone appointment) if I could be tested for POTS. It would explain my spells of dizziness and throbbing head upon standing, weak spells, chronic fatigue, heart palpitations, severe hyperhidrosis and so many other symptoms I have been experiencing since childhood.

Her answer was something to the effect of, "If you have been researching POTS, then you know that it takes a long time to diagnose. Since I am leaving the clinic soon, I suggest you talk to one of my replacements about this."

From my research on POTS I understand that it is diagnosed with either a 10 minute standing test, or a tilt table test, which takes about 30 minutes, so she was either giving me the brush off, or didn't know what she was talking about.

Finally, I informed Dr. P. when we first met that one of my main health goals was to get assessed for autism. I have a son who is diagnosed with autism and I feel that my near-constant stimming, severe sensory sensitivities, lack of social drive, difficulty making eye contact, auditory processing issues, hyperfixation on topics of interest etc., etc., etc., could be explained by an autism diagnosis.

Such a diagnosis would be extremely healing for me for too many reasons to outline here, and would make it much easier for me to request accomodations, should I ever be well enough to work.

Dr. P. said she would look into funding options (an adult ASD assessment typically ranges from 2-5 grand, which I cannot afford) and get back to me. She never did, which was extremely invalidating.

Again, I am appreciative that now I have decent pain meds. Beyond that, I was very disappointed. She needs to be more organized, take better notes, and understand that her negligence has a real impact on the wellbeing of her patients.
