I've been going to the Duke Cancer clinic since mid 2014 and have seen Dr. Valea as an ancillary to my Team of Cancer doctors 4 times. He's brilliant, well respected in his area of expertise by both doctors, nurses and patients. Ignore the wait times......remember there may be someone before you getting really bad news and Dr. Valea takes his time with each patient. His brilliance and years of experience are his assets; disregard any feeling of abruptness or less than stellar bedside manner as first he's a fellow New Yorker and second it's his expertise that matters in OR and diagnosis.

Prior to hysterectomy I really liked Dr. although wait times were long. After surgery I had to see him due to post surgical pain. I had surgery just before Thanksgiving 2010 and didn't want to bother him during holiday. After holiday, the office staff (wonderful) worked me in. When he entered the room he was cordial but I could tell irritated that I was added to schedule. I explained the chronic searing pain. He told me and it is almost an exact quote- That I had a lot of scar tissue prior to surgery. the robotics used caused nerve damage. It wasn't his fault and I would have to live with it. I normally am not a passive person, but I was so stunned. i remained silent and for the next year just cried and lived with it. It is now 2014 and I am learning to manage the pain.(for those with this condition - cymbalta helped, but did cause other problems for me.) I am still angry with Dr Valea and wish that I had spoken up sooner. He was rude, he was unfeeling, and just unprofessional

I'm not dancing yet but feel like I got the best medical care possible for a scary medical diagnosis that needed surgery to resolve. I received answers to all my questions, good pain management and information as to what to expect. The only criticism would be the delay in providing the results of the biopsy after surgery. Dr. Valea inspires confidence and he is very personable.

Dr. Valea is caring, knowledgable and excellent bedside manners. He put both my son and I at ease when I had my very first consultation with him. He has been my physician since October 2009 when he performed my surgery. I have appointments with him every 3 months and he continues to be caring and professional. When you are fearful he puts you at ease. I highly recommend him as a physician in his professio.

I could not live w/out Dr. Valea. He means so much to me. He is caring and I love him like a member of my family. I could not have gone through what I did without this man in my life. My husband, daughter and family and myself are eternally grateful to him and his staff for everything that they have done for me. God Bless you Dr. Valea. Sincerely, Sarah W.

This doctor may be knowledgeable in medicine but he has NO bedside manner and I feel he is only in it for the money, sorry. He entire demeanor changes after he has you scheduled for surgery (meaning he is the dream doctor and tells you everything you want to hear and gives you an enormous amount of time BEFORE just to get your business I believe, read on) then after surgery he is an entirely different species. I believe he purposely said really bad things about radiation treatment JUST to get me to choose surgery, making it an either/or choice THEN on my 1st post op visit (which I thought would be routine) he then lays the whammy on me that I need radiatrion treatment for a few months! Had I known thia would be a possibility I never would have chosen surgery. He and his female partner are heartless & unfeeling & pretty much he pays little to the emotional part afterwards & pretty much never even called after I stopped seeing him because I was devestated. Much more! STAY AWAY!
