I gave birth to my little boy in October 2023, he is my partner and I’s first baby and we were so new and nervous about what to expect and just scared about everything we didn’t know. I picked David because he seemed like such a warm family man from his website reviews and I wanted to feel safe the whole time as I knew I would need as much support as possible.

David delivered above and beyond what I expected, he has a no “bullsh*t” attitude and made sure to be open and honest with me the whole time, he never left me wondering or scared about what was next and made sure I never left without him answering all the questions I possibly needed to ask (or honestly didn’t need to ask but he never complained).
My Bub was scanning big the whole time and by the last few weeks I was really struggling to walk, David took my concerns and pain extremely seriously and talked me through every option, explaining why he recommended one thing vs the other. I chose to induce as I was already 2cm dilated and David got me booked for 3 days later. He was optimistic and supportive about everything and tried to keep everything lighthearted so I wasn’t nervous for the coming Saturday. The midwives and staff at SJOG for wonderful and Kristy (the midwife for the procedure) was everything I could ask for. When it got to 16 hours of labour and my Bub was trying to come out but I wasn’t dilating enough, David talked me through the possibility of a C-section being the right call to make and talked me through the whole procedure. He never once pushed me and let me chose what I thought was best. He was efficient and amazing the entire delivery and I felt safe despite everything going on. David continued to reassure me the whole time and congratulated my partner and I multiple times on our new little boy. He then came in the following day despite the fact that he was going away just to let me know he was proud of me and reassure me again that I shouldn’t feel guilty for having a C-section and that I made the right call for my son.
When I had complications with my healing David saw me multiple times and Bulkbilled every appt until I was better. He took every step possible and ran every test to make sure he knew exactly what was wrong and saw me every few days to make sure I was okay.
I was honestly emotional when I realised we had to say goodbye until next time as he was such a wonderful pillar of support my whole pregnancy and it felt weird to be done with all that haha.

If you want an involved OB that is open and honest with you I highly recommend Dr Mincham. He is kind and caring and made my birth the most beautiful and memorable moment possible. My partner and I can’t thank him enough

Would not recommend dr Mincham at all, he was absolutely awful, unprofessional, rude, disrespectful and at not point made any effort for us. We feel not only was he a total waste of time and money but after our appointments we actually felt a lot worse. I would never want to see him again. Honestly I think he should no longer be allowed to practice, he may have been okay for some people a long time ago but he needs to retire. I think he’s a terrible OBGYN and honestly not a nice person. He should ashamed of the way he conducts himself

I feel robbed of my chances to have natural birth with my daughter. Other obstetricians who have read the reports from David Mincham have said that; "i wasnt given a chance" to have her naturally.

Here is my journey:

During our initial appointment Dr David Mincham asked good questions such as family history and relative information around our birth plans including pain relief etc. During the sequential appointments David asked the same questions as if he had not asked them previously. On one occasion David called me by the wrong name. The appointments would only last a few minutes, David would engage in a 3-5 minute chat, scan the baby, have another 3-5 minute conversation and that was it. I have a close friend who was seen by another Obstetrician at St. John of God Murdoch and she received an abundance of information on various topics related to having a baby in each session.
On the day my husband and I arrived at the hospital at 7am on the 9th of March due to being 6 days over and being induced. I was 1cm dilatated, so David Micham broke my waters, he then asked if we wanted epidural and oxytocin. I asked if it would make any difference getting the epidural straight away and his answer was no. Other specialists in the field have since told me that it would have made a difference as I would have been able to walk around and for the baby to naturally make its way down the birthing canal. Again, this was not thoroughly discussed in our appointment so I did not have a clear understanding of what the medications given did.
Head circumference
During multiple appointments David commented on the size of my babies head being big. He only mentioned the possibility of a c-section once during our appointments, this was during the last appointment. I felt after having a caesarean that as an obstetrician he should have prepared me for what was to potentially come. I feel like the service should have incorporated this due to the financial cost and more importantly ensuring I was emotionally and mentally prepared for potential surgery.
At approximately 4pm on the 9th of March David came into the birthing suite and checked my cervix, I was 2cm dialated. David spoke about the babies head being 32cm and my cervix being 2cm. He spoke about the risks to the baby if we would wait much longer, he said there was a slot for a caesarean at 4pm or we would have to wait another couple of hours. We decided to go ahead based on the advice of Dr. Mincham. On reflection we do feel it was very rushed. I was very distressed on the way down to the theatre room and during the surgery. After the surgary Dr David Micham explained to my husband that it was lucky we went to surgary as the babies head was turned in such a way which would have made if difficult to have a vaginal birth, he did not explain this to me.
No post-operative care
I was extremely disappointment in the post operative care provided. David said that the bandage over my scar would come off in the shower. It in fact did not peel off easily and I had to gradually take it off over the following 6 weeks. I was not told what to expect pain wise and in the morning I woke up in severe pain from the surgary. I woke up crying on a few occasions due to the difficulty in going to the loo. If I had known what to expect I would have better prepared myself and been able to take more medication early in the morning.
I would like to request copies of all my medical information related to the birth of my daughter and reasons why it had to be a c-section.
Overall I am highly disappointed with the service I received from Dr. David Micham.

I had a very good experience with Dr.Mincham. He was always informative during antenatal appointments and took my concerns on board and put me at ease, given it was my first pregnancy I needed guidance and support. He always respected my wish to deliver naturally and didn't want push for anything I didn't agree on. During delivery, it was the same, he was there for us, discussed any interventions needed and acted quickly during emergency situation as I had postpartum hemorrhage and lost alot of blood but he instantly intervened and stopped the bleeding. Overall, he is a very good doctor and I would recommend him for anyone who feels they need a supportive and respectful obstetrician.

I highly recommend Dr David Mincham. Our usual Ob Dr Colin Blair was on holiday when I went into labour and I had met Dr Mincham twice during my antenatal visits. During our visits he was very knowledgeable and informative. During one of our visits nearing the end of pregnancy we stressed how important it was for us to have a natural vaginal delivery with the c-section intervention being the absolute last resort only if my life or baby's life in danger. When it came to the delivery he was so great, gave helpful advice in addition to the midwives during the labour and talked us through any interventions that needed to happen to make us feel comfortable and informed. In the end we delivered our baby girl with only the use of a vacuum and no tears or stitches required. He was composed, confident and very transparent.

I wouldn’t recommend Dr David Mincham to anyone. The reviews are very mixed. I saw him for the first time for my second pregnancy (miscarried the first). I only ended up with him because I couldn’t get an appointment with Dr Colin Blair, his practice partner. I went along to my first appointment and discovered there was no heartbeat. I burst into tears. It was my second loss in less than a year. Dr Mincham asked if I could let him finish. He was explaining the D and C procedure to remove my baby and I guess my crying was interrupting him. He then stormed out and sent a nurse in to stay with me. After the D and C procedure by him, I struggled to fall pregnant needing to seek help from a fertility clinic which lead to years of struggle. Prior to seeing Dr Mincham, I fell pregnant twice very easily in the same year. Don’t take the risk. Go with someone else.

Agree with the bulk of the comments below. He has a very relaxed nature which could be viewed as dismissive if you want a warm fuzzy Dr. He works really fast, again could be viewed as dismissive of you have loads of questions. His staff are OK. If you have any pregnancy issues he is straight onto it, even to the point of being ultra cautious, which is reassuring. He won't go gaga over your baby but he is a fast and good surgeon. He s straight to the point, and if you don't like that suggest you see his partner Colin Blair, they are almost opposites. He s professional but I think he has probably lost the "passion" for it, possibly because his patient list is huge! I think if he cut back on patients it would be better for everyone.

I saw Dr Mincham for both my pregnancies and highly recommend him. As per some of the other comments though, I agree that his receptionist is not helpful at all and found her rude also. With my first, I had a little bleeding in the early weeks - yes, it's normal, but also concerning, especially as a first timer. When I called the office and explained it, she told me that 'if something was happening, it'll happen and there's nothing that can do anyway' - may be true but not exactly the way I feel you should speak to someone who is afraid something may be wrong (it wasn't, everything was fine). Having said that, the midwife Caroline is really lovely!

However, Dr Mincham himself was amazing. When I was exhausted at the pushing stage and wanted him to 'just get the vacuum' to help speed up the process, he had faith that I could do it and encouraged me the whole way through. I liked his humour, and found him comforting, but I think if you want someone to be all soft and mushy then maybe he's not the dr for you. If I went again for round 3 (which I won't be), I'd chose him again in a heartbeat... Just wish the receptionist would change!

Dr David Mincham delivered both of my babies and I was extremely happy with everything he did. He was always so respectful and helpful with any questions or doubts I had. I found him easy to talk to. He always gave me the information I needed. He was very caring and checked in with me after both my cesareans. He is a great ob and I would use him again in a heart beat and I would reccomend him to everyone.
