Dr Canavati is brilliant. He is wise, discerning and very knowledgable. He took time to listen to me, explained things. As a patient, we must learn as well to communicate, ask good questions and let the doctor know you trust them. Many doctors of Dr Isa's caliber don't have the best bedside manner. SO WHAT! Get warm and fuzzies from the nurses. I want their brain, their talent and their skill when they operate. I have spondylitis, 6 bulging discs in my neck, a tumor on my spine and changes in my spinal cord. He also connected me with a great neurologist. Dr Isa is worth waiting for to get an appt. Be ready, take all of your films, take all reports. Bring a pen and paper, take good notes, ask questions. He is exceptional! OH and if he's late to your appt? Be very grateful when YOU are the one who he is taking extra time with at the hospitals. What goes around sure does come around. :)

My sister just had surgery on Friday. She got along really well; however, Dr. Canavati never came out and spoke to my mother after her surgery nor did he speak to my sister (the patient) after. She was released from the hospital by a different doctor. I find this unacceptable. I am happy that my sister's surgery went well, but I find it poor bedside manner that the actual surgeon did not have time to update her on her progress or follow up on her after. My mom was told that it would take a half an hour for the surgery and an hour in recovery. 2 hours later, she was still waiting in the waiting room praying that everything was alright. Dr. Canavati is a good surgeon, but I have a problem with his arrogance. He should realize that he is operating on a person who has family that is worried about them. All we asked is to be updated and shown that he actually CARED about our concerns and feelings. It would have taken 10 minutes from his schedule...

My surgery went well and in recovery he told my mate that I would be okay in a month. Well its been 3 months and I'm still in pain I have called 3 times trying to get another appt. and I keep getting brushed off by the nurse. She also told me that they wouldn't prescribe me a nerve med because Medicaid wouldn't pay for it. Strange that my general doctor prescribed it for me with no problems and Medicaid paid for it. Discrimination to the fullest! Overall I'm dissatisfied.

Dr. Canavati was extremely knowledgeable about my condition and explained it to me at a level that I could understand. He addressed my issue and offered options and agreed to do what I felt comfortable with. My recovery time was very short and what little pain I did experience, he was able and willing to make me comfortable. I need to have another procedure done soon and there is no question that I'll have Dr Canavati perform that procedure as well. I would recommend him to everyone that face similar challenges as I did.

Dr. Isa Canavati is the best. That has been confirmed by other doctors, nurses, social workers, etc. in town. There is no bigger recommendation than a social worker (who deals with ALL doctors' mistakes) saying that's who she would use without hesitation. The below complaints of rude seemed odd to me because he was never rude to me. Even if he was, he still would have been doing my surgery. I was selecting the best surgeon, period. That is all I care about. I am in the recovery phase of my spinal fusion and I feel SO MUCH better than I did beforehand. I have taken almost no pain meds because of the amazing job he did. He even fixed a 2nd problem in there that was not viewable from a CAT Scan. I've never been more happy with a medical professional.

He is a great doctor and helped me in a time of need. We were traveling out of state and I was admitted to emergency room in Marion, IN hosp. The Dr. who examined my painful back, set us up with an appointment with Dr. Canavati, who interrupted his schedule to see us. Dr. Emilian in the emergency room said this is the Dr. he would use if he had a back problem. When we got to Lutheran hosp. in Ft Wayne, I asked around and another doctor and two nurses said the same thing, and in fact one of the doctor's sisters was operated on by Canavati. He immediately asked for an MRI and a Catscan just in case it was not a back problem. He then made room in his schedule for surgery that evening because he knew the pain and that we were from out of town. All the more impressive when he wil likely not be getting more business from me. He was kind, explained things well and followed through. We are back in NJ now and just called his office and they responded and helped. He is tops in my book!

This man (I refuse to call him a Dr, and can't call him what I would like to) almost killed me. He missed my broken neck, and because of it and the poor sanitary practices at the hospital, I got a staph infection in my spine and spinal fluid. He discharged me from the hospital, and for weeks I kept trying to tell him something was wrong, even my Physical Therapist told him something was wrong. It took me 5 weeks of dealing with the broken neck and the staph infection eating away at my spine and raging through my spinal fluid before I got my family Dr to see me. Once my family Dr did a MRI, he then paid attention to it, and had the nerve to tell me that he "saved my life" I have had to have 2 vert. removed and replaced in my neck, and because the staph infection remained in my spinal fluid, it has eaten most of my spine now. Before he touched me I was a vibrant go getter. I am now stuck in bed, and am confined to a wheelchair. I ended up having to go the Cleveland Clinic to h

I met with this "doctor" for a second time and I brought my wife with me. When my wife started asking questions of why he recommended surgery, he got mad and was very rude! He never looked me in the eye and he made us feel like we were wasting his time. I told him that I have never had surgery and was scared and he said, and I quote "well, if your scared don't do the surgery." At that point he reach up a slamed the light off on the MRI reader, yanked my MRIs down, stuffed them in the MRI jacket and walked out. My aunt had surgery performed by him and she also said he was the rudest person she ever met. If you are going to see this "doctor", beware if you don't agree with him. This person certainly doesn't care about patients, only about doing a surgery and making money. If all this was not true, trust me, I would not take my time to pass along this information.

He was always rude, he actually walked out of the office on me when I asked him questions about the surgery. He was always an hour late for all of my appointments. I ended up having him do my back surgery anyway, and not even a year later i'm in worse pain than ever! I now have to have surgery again, but I definitely won't be going back to Dr. Canavati!
