Michael Shier is the biggest ******* as a person. He may be competent as a specialist but is the rudest, most arrogant doctor I have ever met. I know this as a fact because not only was I a patient but also worked with him professionally. He is considered to be, by his colleagues, the most childish, petulant and churlish idiot imaginable. All the negative comments stated are absolutely correct. The people who gave positive comments just happened to dodge a bullet

I went to see him and well he was rude, talked to me like a child actually barley spoke to me . He spoke to the wonderful female intern god bless her. He simple grumbled at me for being ah to spread them and keep them spread while the talked dr language. Also I was bleeding soi wanted to keep legs closed to avoid extra leakage. He rudely told be stop it. However if he can help me with my medical condition I don’t care. I heard he is the best but he literally came in did some talking to thenintern and left

The intern dr was the best she was kind understanding and explained stuff to me nicely

I was very nervous going to my appointment in a city I am not familiar with, this ended up being the worst experience I have ever had in my life with a Physician. He was rude, arrogant, very disrespectful. Became almost defensive and dismissive when I asked any questions. I wondered if he was speaking to the correct patient as he stated symptoms that I did not have, and never did have. He walked out the door before I could ask what his plan of care was to be. I was angered, bewildered and frightened by him. I will never go back to him and do not recommend him . The secretary just as rude almost confrontational.

I feel very lucky to have had ongoing access to Dr Shier’s colposcopy clinic over the past few years. Sometimes it can feel like you’re rushed through your appt but there are many others to help waiting to go next I’m sure. Most likely he has saved me from getting cancer with his team’s approach to care & prevention. The residents come & go but I really appreciate the nurses like Angela there who pass me tissues when I get bad news or offer me spare bandaids when I casually mention I’m breaking in new shoes. It’s the little things that make sometimes scary health updates or painful biopsies manageable. While I hope I never have to return, I have Dr Shier to thank for preventing serious disease and I’m grateful the team are there to help other women who find themselves in a similar position.

I was initially nervous about being referred to Sunnybrook following some disagreement on a previous biopsy. I found Dr. Shier to be extremely knowledgeable in his diagnosis and treatment planning. He performed my surgery and I feel as though I am in amazing hands regardless of the results. Some reviewers have noted that he may not have the best bedside manner. He is to the point and does not sugar coat things, but just remember that his focus is on disease prevention and treatment. Personally, I appreciate his approach much more. The only thing that I find challenging are the wait times when scheduling appointments, however this is unfortunately to be expected given our health care system.

The worst experience I have ever had with any doctor. He gave me a solution with zero explanation and when i started questioning it he rushed out of the room and refused to see me again. I have been stressed for months and told him that but he could not have cared less. I even stood around his office door after the appointment to try and catch him for a few questions which he refused to answer because according to him we "spoke for long enough". I was crying and instead of having compassion, this old son of a b*itch told his receptionist to call "code white", meaning that a patient is being disturbant. He's the biggest piece of sh*t and I wish i could punch him in his old ugly face.

I do not recommend this doctor. He has no compassion and neither does his female resident/fellow. He gave me one option for treatment (laser) and told me that I could go back to work the same day (not so!). I was given no after-care instructions and was in a lot of pain for 2 weeks (could not walk or sit without pain) and had to take unplanned time off work. When I saw my family doctor she recommended that I see them for follow-up. They were very reluctant to book an appointment for follow-up, but they ended up booking one for me. When I went to the follow-up appointment, it was apparent that they did not want to see me and both Dr. Shier and his resident/fellow were unsypathetic to my pain. As a matter of fact pushed on the affected area so hard and looked at me like I was insane when I yelped with pain. To add insult to injury, told me that it should not hurt! Saw him months later for another follow-up and he recommended more laser! I told him I was a little nervous about doing that again because of my last experience, his response was to shrug and say "well don't do it" - no other options were provided other than a prescription to numb the pain (given just to shut me up, I think). Anyway, jump 1.5 years later and I started seeing a pelvic physiotherapy which has helped immensely in just a few weeks already. If you're looking to go to this doctor for pain, I suggest you try pelican physio first as you will find more compassion for sure.

I do not recommend at all. Do not go to him unless you want to be disrespected and dismissed. You take time out of your day to go all the way to Sunnybrook only for him to see you for 2 minutes and leave the room without answering any questions or concerns. His resident physician, Kate, was twice as rude as he was. Will be contacting the Ontario college of physicians and surgeons with regards to the resident - she is a student who literally just graduated from medical school and she treats patients with such disrespect and lack of compassion you question why she went through medical school in the first place.
