Dr.Styles is clueless when it comes to Level 1 Autism. I cannot tell you how angering it is as a parent to hear a doctor, let alone a pediatrician, make comments about not “seeing the autism” because my son was social and made eye contact. To pass along questionnaires and not allow the time to really listen, see the child on multiple occasions etc…

We were discharged as patients because it had been over a year since our last visit… it was during a worldwide global pandemic where I was dealing with a slew of medical issues including a cancer diagnosis.

When I told his office I hadn’t been back because of this, that my son was now exhibiting suicidal ideation and we needed help, he suggested I take my child to Emerge… yeah that will go over well. Take my autistic child to the emerge, scare him as he hates hospitals and has a phobia of needles. Anyone with any knowledge of Autism would know that is not how you go about offering supportive care.

As an aside, we got an official diagnosis ASD Level 1 diagnosis privately from a Psychologist after THREE other professionals got it wrong! It is a spectrum people— a social communication disorder that affects many things including psychological flexibility etc. Styles for sure needs to read up more on this and get to know more about the topic.

His office staff are rude, patronizing and lack empathy of a Mom who just wants her kids to get the same pediatrician. I was on the waitlist for years to see him, too. What a let down.!

My son has been dealing with him for several years. He has helped so much. I’m not sure what these other people are talking about. He seems quiet well informed and has done nothing but good things for our family.

My son has been dealing with Dr Styles for a few months now, and I can honestly say he has helped my son work through quite a few issues. He is always very patient, and explains everything in way that we can understand. I have nothing but amazing things to say about him.

If you have no real urgency for help or support needed for your child, you may find Dr. Styles repetitive questions and enlightening thoughts rather entertaining however if your child and family are in need of actual medical support, Dr. Styles is probably not the doctor for your family. After waiting almost a year to see him (if this is typical, I understand we all need/want money but perhaps just not taking on any more patients would be a better approach - if for nothing else, the child who needs help) we are now onto our 3rd apt, all of which were 1-2 hours and we are still in the "intake/gathering history" part of the process. Which I could potentially understand if the child has been struggling with multiple symptoms and has not yet seen a pediatrician in the past however that's not the case with us. My child has already been diagnosed with Autism, Dyspraxia, and an intellectual disability by very reputable pediatricians, with supporting documentation and yet, I've been asked to again fill out forms that have been already been filled out at the time of diagnosis. Additionally, I absolutely agree - the behavior of listening to the parent, is somewhat challenging for Dr. Styles, though I do appreciate he listens to my child and consistently tries to engage in conversation. I explained the therapies and strategies we're working with and some things that have and haven't worked in the past and yet, he'll make those same recommendations. I just can't figure out if it's a knowledge issue or just complete lack of efficiency but overall, it is extremely unfortunate for a child in desperate need of help.

We've been working with Dr. Styles for the last several months and I find him very helpful and knowledgable as well as patient. He talks directly to my child and is sensitive to our conversations about my child infront of him. The receptionist is great and always has been helpful.

I agree with not educated. Brought up concerns of autism with him which he brushed off. Turns out my child was severky autistic. He then says you didnt bring up any concerns. Joke. He also couldnt figure out flushed face that never went away, turns out it was a food sensitivity. Only took sone searching on the web to figure that out. Simple. Cleared it up and researched for him on my own. Horrible.

Dr. Styles and his staff are an absolute nightmare. Thankfully we recently switched to Dr. Buors. It's a night and day experience.

Dr Styles has been a wonderful, caring, supportive Dr to both of our kids. For our son with ASD, who is challenging for sure, he is an excellent listener, empowers him to speak freely, is non-judgmental and is supportive to us as parents. He provides lots of options and listens to our concerns and preferences. He speaks with respect to our kids in a way that many professionals do not. Highly recommended! There has been staff turnover so it is hard to rate, but we have never had a problem. Appointments can be hard to get now that he is so busy but that is not a staff problem. We are always treated courteously and respectfully.

I do not recommend him at all. He is rude and moody but most of all he is really not well educated. I feel he must be one of those Drs who paid his way through his degree. There are so many options in Whitby with great pediatricians.
