Pediatricians are pivotal in ensuring the health and wellness of children, from infancy to adolescence, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of not only physical but also mental, behavioral, and developmental disorders affecting youth and young adults.

Pediatricians are responsible for the everyday, whole health care for children and adolescents providing everything from immunizations/vaccinations, routine health exams, and treatments for an assortment of minor conditions and injuries. Like Family Doctors / General Practitioners, Pediatricians make referrals for patients requiring further specialized care across the multitude of branches of medicine.

Treatments and procedures offered by a Pediatrician include the diagnosis of infections, colds, fevers, genetic and congenital conditions, developmental disorders, behavioral difficulties, anxiety disorders, injuries, cancers, organ diseases, and dysfunctions in children and young adults.

Some common pediatric surgeries include such procedures as ear tube placement, appendectomy, pyloric stenosis repair, adenoid removal, tonsillectomy, inguinal hernia repair, leg lengthening, umbilical hernia, and club foot repair.

Pediatricians can further study in sub-specialties such as pediatric cardiology, pediatric oncology, and pediatric endocrinology. They can be found working in collaboration with medical practitioners in the fields that span many areas of medicine including Ophthalmologists, Rheumatologists, General Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Psychologists, and Neurologists to name a few.
