My Mother, a very Lovely Woman. Was not feeling well and was experiencing pain in her ears and throat. I decided to make her an appointment with Dr. Guttenplan. I also accompanied her to the appointment and was in the patient room while he saw her. He came in with a resident. He said hello then asked Mom why she was there to see him. She was having issues speaking, but he kept talking over her as if he wasn’t really listening to her complaints. He treated her in a cocky manner with no patience at all. Not even seeming as if he was interested. If he had taken a least the littlest of time. He would’ve realized that she was really sick. He should’ve checked her thoroughly as all patients deserve. We are allotted a certain amount of time with a doctor per visit. She wasn’t even extended that… It was as if he had something more important to attend to. Other than my Mother whom took the time out to see him. She suffered from RA and it was very painful for her to make the trip there. The least he could’ve done was listen. Well, three days later she ended up in the ER. Because, her throat was hurting more and she couldn’t breathe. She died five days later. It breaks my heart to know that maybe he could’ve caught this at the time of her visit. Then, maybe I could’ve taken her to the ER following his visit and my Mother would be sitting here talking to me now. Now… I have to hug her urn… To make matters worse. He sends me two bills. One for $24.41 and the second for $16.49. Which is such an enormous slap in the face. I made this appointment with Dr. Guttenplan, because I thought he was a great doctor. But, I was incorrect. He’s just another cocky doctor that has forgotten why he became a doctor in the first place. To “help” people. Well, thanks for nothing Dr. Guttenplan…. Thanks for nothing.

On September 30th In a CRS Clinic with my Down syndrome child who has a High tolerance to Pain. We were scheduled with Dr.Guttenplan for a ear wax cleaning & tube removal these two things have been done for 10years by Different Doctors at Different occasions. This Doctor is very Rude to practice with Children, in the 10 years that my son has gotten his wax cleaning & Tube Removals he has never felt this much pain & has never Bled from this procedure. By the way the bleeding was caused not by the tube removal, but the wax cleaning. The reason why I am leaving this review with the terrible experience with my son is for another parent with a child won’t go through this awful & painful experience. It’s Best to wait for an appointment with another Doctor, than to have appointment with Dr.Guttenplan.

I saw Dr. Guttenplan when he worked with a previous office. It is obvious why he isn't there anymore. Not only did he diagnose me incorrectly for a year, he also was incredibly rude. Most of the other reviews I am reading say the same thing. He asked me to tell him my story, so I did even though he cut me off several times, and then after finishing he told me how I "should have" told him the story... I didn't realize I was going to a public speaking course, I thought I was going to an ENT doctor for treatment. Needless to say I will never go back to him again.

Dr. Guttenplan performed sinus surgery on my wife. Unfortunately her sinus problems have not abated. I saw him also and while trying to answer his question about my symptoms he cut me off and told me to give short answers only. He recommended a surgery in which he would cut through my neck to stretch my esophagus, spend a week recovering in the hospital and with the potential risk of death. I got a second opinion and ended up getting an endoscopic esophageal myotomy, returning safely home after one night in the hospital. Dr. G. said he was old school and I recommend that no one ever let him cut your throat open when the same procedure can be done much more simply and safely with a laser.

Dr. Guttenplan unfortunately has a rough "bed-side" manner. My original doc at his practice left so I was placed with him. He's always unshaven and his personality is just as bristly and rough. He asked a question on my condition but the answer wasn't a simple yes or no. When I tried to answer, he interrupted and went off on me for "not answering." It was demeaning - as if I was an idiot and don't understand questions. His assistant is a bit of an oddball too - nice enough, just a little "off" it seems. The original treatment room I was in had what appeared to be rather old furniture and equipment - like it was a 80's ENT museum. Sure enough, I had to move to another room when they couldn't get the ear/nose scope and light working. Doc seemed a little more pleasant in the follow up appointment but it's those FIRST IMPRESSIONS that stick.

Dr Guttenplan and his office are terrific. I suffered from a severely deviated septum for most of my life. Diagnosed immediately, thorough in his work up for nasal surgery, minimal blood loss and pain. The very next day, you could barely even notice I had surgery. I've been to a few doctors in my 51 years, but few as qualified, personable and "human" as Dr Guttenplan is! He's definitely a keeper in my doctor black book :-)

Dr. Guttenplan seemed knowledgeable enough. He removed a growth and I did not have any problems in the aftermath. However, he needs a refresher course on manners. This doctor was very rude and confrontational. His untamed beard was gross and definitely not an example of good hygiene. It was evident that he disliked Medicare patients. He challenged my inability to stand and to walk. Having diabetes, congestive heart failure, COPD, kidney failure and numerous other problems, I have trouble getting around. His conduct was demeaning. My husband and I are very upset. It's hard enough to keep my spirits up daily. When I called to get an appointment, he was the only one available. I can see why!
