Dr. Chan is a rarity in his field of medicine and I dread the day he retires. I have never had a doctor so thorough in his line of questioning and actual examination to get to the root/cause of the underlying issues. Unfortunately, a lot of the newer physicians just don't take or have the time to do thorough assessments nowadays. Yes, I gladly book time off work when I have an appointment as my care from his is well worth it!

I understand the office is busy and can be overbooked yet I waited 1.5 hours before seeing him for an appointment. Not a great start. He has a very reductionist mindset. He told me my past gynaecological concern had nothing to do with chronic stress, over exertion, under eating etc. He said I lost my period (in the most traumatic/stressful point in my life) because i was on the birth control pill and “it needed time to kick in”. I was on the pill 5 years prior to this and had regular periods. He also went on to say I wasn’t in the army or wasn’t an “anorexic ballerina” so I wouldn’t live up to the diagnosis. Respectfully, he should work to learn more about his patients before discrediting their experience. I didn’t even bother explaining to him my history, nor did he care to ask. I was there for solely a PAP test, he ended up doing a full bimanual exam without telling me beforehand. I wouldn’t have had a problem with that, but he never asked for my consent in performing that part of an exam. Given his vulnerable and sensitive specialty, he should work towards empowering and listening to the women he sees. Unfortunately I don’t recommend seeking his care

I visited his office twice, both times for an IUD insertion/removal. The first time was not terrible, he had some weird vibes but I can't recall anything specific happening (the initial visit was 2017). The second time I went to see him (2020), he commented on my acne and recommended I look for treatment for it because I was a "very beautiful woman who doesn't need to deal with such problems". I tried to brush him off, but he kept pushing that I try Accutane or something similar to rid myself of the acne. If I was seeing a dermatologist, maybe I'd expect something like this. But I was seeing a 60-something male OBGYN to have an IUD removed. Having him comment on my looks right before he pulled an old IUD out of my uterus definitely made me more than a little uncomfortable. After this experience, I never went back. His staff are great, but he's kinda creepy.

Dr. Chan is an excellent and knowledgeable doctor. He stays up to date with the most recent research (and has conducted some of his own studies) to ensure he is able to support patients with current best practices. He always took his time with appointments, explained things carefully, and left time for all of my pregnancy questions. Consequently, I did often have to wait to see him. But I would rather know I'm not going to be rushed in an appointment and have to wait a little. My pregnancy was normal all along, but when some subtle symptoms emerged towards the end of my pregnancy, he took swift action and thank goodness he did!

His bedside manner is unique, but I always felt that he cared deeply for me as a patient and I am so thankful he supported me through my pregnancy this year!

Dr. Chan was by OB for my first pregnancy in 2020/2021. I felt that he was extremely knowledgeable, tentative and professional.
