Dr. Isserow has an extraordinary way about him - he's a magnet. He's warm, friendly, remembers people's kids' names, asks about their pets, and seems genuinely thrilled to see everyone. Patients and staff all seem equally thrilled to see him - watching him greet people in his office is like watching dear old friends reacquainted every time. That aside, he's been very thorough and clear in testing and explaining my heart condition. He has made sure I understand what's going on exactly, and how it will affect my life. I've appreciated this immensely, as I was frozen in fear to put any stress on my heart before this.
SIDE NOTE: As a woman, there was a twinkling of discomfort once or twice with the way he held my hand after surgery for a solid 5 minutes while talking to me, and when using his hand doppler to watch my heart. Perhaps it's my own guarded nature, because he seems genuine and father-like (not creepy), but I'd suggest he take a class in appropriate touch - holding hands or touching a leg is not really appropriate for a doctor. Putting a hand on a shoulder or a forearm still shows compassion without triggering any unwanted, post-trauma stress in female patients.
