Horrible doctor, very condescending and rude and will lie in your medical record. Yes, lie! She does not care about her patients it is definitely working only in workers comp best interest. Even her staff would complain about her to me, the patient. Just a miserable, stale ham sandwich of a woman.

At my first appointment with Dr Dervay I found her to be straight forward, professional, and and thorough. She took time to examine me, review the results of my MRI and discuss appropriate treatment. She prescribed physical therapy and a painkiller, referred me to another specialist for a labral tear repair surgery and asked to see me a couple of weeks later to see how I was doing. I personally prefer a Dr who “cuts through the chase” and gets to an accurate diagnosis quickly. My case involves both the hip and lumbar spine and is not straight forward. I am happy to be able to move forward with my treatment, with less pain and possibly a surgery to repair the labrum in my hip. I am now hopeful that my pain will abate and I will be able to go on with my life.
In regard to the office staff I found them very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend Dr Dervay to anyone in need of treatment for pain.

The worst doctor in Norfolk, awful, rude and disrespectful if she doen't get her way. Im in pain for an injury at work for long time now and she believe is carpal tunnel, wow. All she did was poke around for a minute or two and already had an opinion and contradicted herself. If other doctors already told you what you have, she will stated they are incorrected, what doctor do that?. She is rude, condescending and will write things in your medical record to stop other doctors from seeing you be careful. Even after a few MRI showing my condition she denied it. If you are with workers comps you better change her because she will mess up your injury case.

I was referred to Dr. Dervay by my primary care physician to address persistent lower back pain. After an MRI, I met Dr. Dervay at Norfolk General Hospital where she clearly explained what she considered to be the root of the problem and recommended an epidural injection. She performed the injection at that time and scheduled me to return to her office in two weeks to assess the results of the injection and determine if more injections would be needed, I experienced gradual and complete pain relief before the two-week the appointment. At the two-week appointment, Dr. Dervay shared my joy at the successful outcome. No further injections would be required. She cautioned me to be alert for any different pain recurrence and to notify her ASAP if that occurred. I have found Dr. Dervay to be extremely knowledgeable and professional in the field of pain management and relief. It was a pleasure to be under her medical care.

Don't bother with this doctor. I was referred to by my retiring doctor in June and immediately made an appointment for October. However, I received a call today (9/22) that the doctor reviewed my record and "didn't feel like I could be her patient" and cancelled the appointment leaving me without a pain management doctor. Wow, now this is a great way to treat patients!

I had a very unpleasant experience with Dr. Dervay. I was referred to her by another doctor due to lower back issues, which is immediately a red flag for almost every doctor you go to. I do understand why that is, and for those who don't know, it is because back pain isn't something you can disprove. There is no definitive way to tell that someone is not experiencing pain, and is just lying to get drugs. That being said, within the first minute of my interactions with her she put me on the defensive. She doesn't ask how you are and what's wrong, she interrogates you. She makes you feel like a child being yelled at. Once you are there, the issue isn't figuring what is causing you pain, it's to get you to slip up and say something wrong so she can make you look like a drug addict. Once you get past the interrogation she did do what I would say was a reasonable physical exam, but once she sees that there is no obvious cause for back pain, she immediately becomes accusatory and tries to prove you are lying to get drugs. My best guess would be that at some point early in her career she got screwed over by someone doing this and has sworn to never let it happen again. After a couple appointments with her, they did a steroid injection and phyisical therapy. PT did ok for a while but within a year my issues we back and as bad as they ever were. I realize this is a long comment, but I felt compelled to tell others to avoid this woman if at all possible. She treats you like you are liar the second you walk in the door, and also acts surprised when urine tests come back clean.
TLDR: she is a massive bitch and she almost certainly won't treat your pain.
