Lee is an unethical professional. I got a doctor to get records specifically for ADD/ADHD, and he sent more records such as saying I had generalized anxiety and that I like the drink. He said I had problems with drinking, but considering I’m trying to meet people in my age group it’s tough to get away without it. Also considering 4 drinks a week is technically considered alcoholism, and I average 0 for the last year Lee is slandering my name in the medical system. He also tried to say to the physician that I went to the “college” about him. This would have to be in regards to my previous review on RatemyMD. This isn’t a college of medical professionals, it’s a website where fellow patients can rate their experience with them. Not a place to get scolded by other medical professionals because Lee Cohene doesn’t like his honest review. I spent around 10 sessions with this man, and it was endless rambling by the end of it so I left no contact. Kind of strange he took it so rough, maybe he needs to see a psychologist himself if he can’t respect others choices. The best part is I was asking for records so I could get medication considering my family doctor closed her practice. The new physician wants me to get diagnosed after being medicated for 3 years and I still need it to fully function. He told the new physician that I didn’t pay the “fees” to do it. He never once mentioned that was an option. I think it was his plan to keep me coming in for appointments, and he’s probably punishing me for not continuing.

I’ve had good results with dr cohene. He helped me to get thru ptsd from a car accident, and am coping with mid life changes thru talk therapy. I like his pragmatic nature and I feel like I make progress with him when I am open to change. Everyone has a different path and need at different phases of life, and I Lee is a good listener for me.

I agree with a lot of the negative reviews below about Lee. I asked him for help with ADHD, and all he had to tell me was to start taking fast acting ritalin. He said it about ten times over too, as if he wanted to extend the appointment without giving me any real advice. No book recommendations, no explanation of what was going on with my psychologically. Just faster acting methylphenidate. I had to interrupt to even have him talk about another subject, and he told me I was looking for “quick fix.” I think taking a medication such as I was is more of a quick fix than actual psychological advice. He even bragged about how he knew doctors in the office my family doctor was employed by, so I was not to worry about asking my doctor about it. I asked him for help with narcissistic abuse, and the best he could give me was pretend I’m wearing a suit of armour. What is that supposed to do? He never explained what they are trying to do, and how I can actually feel better about it. It wasn’t until I started reading books on the subject that I realized how unhelpful that advice was. He actually told me to get thicker skin during one session. If I would have knew then what I know now I could have protected myself. Instead I pretended nothing was happening, and let the affects set in. I was looking for a psychologist, not a counsellor. The most I got for good advice for him was to do things like personalize my apartment. I tried multiple times to talk about my past family life, to delve into the potential damage done. He never once let me talk about it. With all the topics I wanted to talk about he never addressed that one. With all the time we could have been talking about that, instead of being repeated the same advice continuously, we could have easily addressed it. I didn’t show up for my last appointment, and the payment did not go through. I had recently lost my credit card and needed a replacement. I later asked him to speak with my family doctor about a medication change, due to my blood pressure being dangerously high. He extorted me saying he would not speak to them, unless I paid for the appointment I did not go to. I was already upset with the waffling and odd advice I was receiving, that I was wanting to go to another therapist. I wasn’t concerned about a missed payment, considering I was feeling defeated after countless therapy sessions with Lee. He also showed up late to some sessions, and my last session with him ended 15 minutes early with no payback to me.

I felt kind of extorted, he would keep talking for a very long time until half an hour session was over and then charge me for that extra time I did not agreed with or asked for. He did that several times even after I asked him to keep the sessions for only 1 hour. I finally gave up on treating with him because I was more worried about him charging me more for the sessions than solving my problems. I found it quite unethical, especially when I told him I had difficulty to be assertive. It felt he was taking advantage of my issues.

Spends half the session talking about HIS past achievements and credentials.
Not focused. Loves to waffle. Likes to drag on the session to charge an extra 0.25 hour

I had previously briefly seen a couple of therapists but I did not find them too helpful. I was refered to Lee by a relative and my expectations were blown away. He was nothing short of professional, friendly, and caring from the start of my first session.

He approached the issues I was facing from a clinical point of view but also acted as a fantastic life coach. He worked with me to develop a plan that was suited to my needs and respected my autonomy to make my own decisions.

He could have dragged on my treatment for monetary gain, but he quickly changed my outlook on life after just a few sessions and was supportive of my decision to stop coming in unless there was some sort of crisis.

I rarely would get a chance to speak. I spent most of our sessions just listening to him rant. There were multiple occasions where I couldn't get him to stop talking and so our session would end up going for an extra 15-30 minutes which he made me pay for. Please, find a therapist who will speak to you like a real person and not like a patient.

He has the tendency spend my session talking about his credentials rather than getting into therapy. You can find his suggestions in basic psychology textbooks.

I was referred to Dr. Cohene a number of years ago, and I have always remained glad we met. Our initial appointment went very well, and I left with some excellent insights, and almost immediately began an ongoing recovery process. Our folloups were very productive, and I just recently was happy to pass his referral along to a close friend.
