Biography
Dr Maloof specialises in advanced Cornea and Oculoplastic surgery, or in layman’s terms, surgery of the Eyes and Face. After receiving a medical degree and basic medical training at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Dr Maloof obtained a Masters in Biomedical Engineering at UNSW, and then became the last trainee of the late Professor Fred Hollows. Finishing specialty training at a young age, Dr Maloofs unique holistic approach has arisen from spending 3 years in England obtaining advanced surgical skills in the traditionally separate fields of Cornea and Oculoplastic Surgery. On return to Australia in 2000, Dr Maloof was immediately appointed to run the surgical services in the Ophthalmic department at Westmead hospital where he transformed the training of registrars and the outpatient service to Western Sydney. From 2014, Dr Maloof continued training specialists at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital and receives referrals from many of the current practicing specialists who he trained. When it comes to surgery of the Eyes and Face, Dr Maloof is conservatively aggressive: he is not afraid of complex procedures, but careful to select the procedure that is right for the individual. Sometimes conjoint care with other disciplines like ENT, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, and Endocrinology is required. Being unafraid to question the limits of current surgical thinking has given Dr Maloof a reputation as a fixer, lateral thinker and leader in advancing surgical techniques. Dr Maloofs advice is clearly structured, tailored to the needs of the individual, and with over 20 years of specialty experience, direct in telling patients when surgery is unlikely to provide benefit. Dr Maloof is skilled in providing a diagnosis, options for treatment, and most importantly, putting in the time to ensure you understand.

Greetings, I am Peter. For years, I grappled with debilitating eye problems that took a toll on my overall well-being, leading to bouts of depression and interruptions in both work and daily activities. The persistent pain and discomfort I experienced were at times unbearable, prompting numerous visits to various eye specialists.
It was during this challenging journey that I was fortunate to be referred to Dr. Anthony Maloof by one of the eye specialists. Through his thorough research, Dr. Maloof identified an underlying immune system disorder and recommended surgery to address Pterygium in both of my eyes. The severity in my right eye prompted it to be the first in line for the Pterygium removal and Conjunctival autograft procedure.
I must admit, the prospect of an operation on my eye was daunting, and fear loomed large. Dr. Maloof reassured me that I would be awake during the procedure, and while I tried to maintain a brave exterior, my mind conjured unsettling images. To my surprise, the reality was far from the horror movie scenario I had envisioned. Under anesthesia, I experienced no pain, and my vision was mostly obscured, sparing me from any frightening sights or discomfort.
A year later, the same operation awaited my left eye, and remarkably, I approached it with no fear. The positive impact of these surgeries on my life has been nothing short of transformative. I have bid farewell to depression and reclaimed a normal, active lifestyle. A heartfelt thank you is owed to Dr. Anthony Maloof and his exceptional staff for restoring joy and vitality to my life—thank you!
